What have been your lowest cost but amazing performance rimfires?

It sounds like your chamber may need some more polishing. I've had the odd rifle like this, so I polished the bolt, inside the receiver, and the chamber to a mirror finish. All this seemed to cure any sticking cases or rough cycling and feeding......:)

I just didnt want to make it oversized so unfortunately it just sits in its mdt lss chassis collecting dust

If you polish with a copper brush, approximately 243" size, run lots of gun oil and change your speeds while polishing you should be okay. Keeping the brush straight is key, and massaging the brush in and out while not hitting the lands should fix the issue.

I totally understand if you are not comfortable completing this task. It would be a crying shame to have a nice rifle become a safe queen......:(

It would take a lot of polishing to make it over-sized I would think. However I'm a certified armorer, not a real gunsmith. LOL

Cases pry out easily. I think the ectractor is the ssue. It just slides over the rim. The parts I sent from a member helped but hasn't fixed it
The gun does shoot well enough for head shots on squirrels though

For me this falls hands down to the Savage B22 FVSS I had to start my ORPS journey. Did very well with that rifle. It shot amazing ran smooth and I actuallly liked the rotary mags (great for barricade work and shooting unsupported.

Very sorry I sold it when I “upgraded” to the CZ. Love my CZ 457 rifles but honestly have yet to perform as well with them over that $400 savage. Don’t think it has anything to do with the rifles per se, as I’m struggling more as of late with past injuries but the fact remains none the less.IMG_3175.jpeg

Old 702 Jr i bought for my brother when he was 12.
I still use it 18 years later. I can flip 1" spinners with it all day long at about 75.

Free floating barrel, #### trigger, barely gets cleaned as its a massive #### to strip it.

Those squirrels look huge, nice work!........:)

Definitely contact Savage USA and request a new spring, extractor, and ejector. Like I said before, also ask for a spare magazine for your troubles!..........;)

This may very well fix your issue. That rifle looks far too nice to be sitting alone in a gun safe......:)
 
I’ve got a couple old 22s which were all pretty cheap years back and all shoot very good. Win 69a, Rem 580, Rem 513, But my best on paper performance to date has been with my Mossberg 146B T-bolt. I think its in the range of 1950 manufacturer. Shot some very good 100 meter targets with it.
 
Best one I've had so far was a Valmet, think it was called a Lion, from somewhere in the 60's or 70's, was supposedly brought over here for 76(?) Montreal Olympics. Was heavy, but, gophers were not safe inside of 150, even at 200 with that gun, it was a singleshot, kinda pesky on a gopher field, but , it shot very well. Had a Browning A bolt, and now a T-bolt, both work(ed) like they were supposed to, shot pretty decent. Have a CZ457 that took a bit of sorting out to make fit me, but, it is working now, shoots pretty decently, still trying out different ammos in it, appears to have potential though.

I got a Savage MK 1 , junior rifle for training newbies, it had an extractor issue, called Savage and the nice lady sent me a new extractor set and spring. Same issue ,put the old spring over the new one , was a bit tricky but got it done. No more extractor issues. Changed out the front sight for a Marbles 3/16” ivory , shoots like sin .
 
I've got 2 savage mkII and love them

First I bought for $175 new missing mag thinking it was a .17hmr but misread the ad and it was a .17hm2. heavy barrel. Bought a pack of 3 mags for $30 bucks and the thing is stupid accurate and fun to shoot although ammo hard to come across sometimes.

The other is just a basic .22 with wood stock and accurate as well. Mags are interchangeable between both calibers so for such a small investment I can't believe how accurate they are.
 
Picked up a used CZ452 Varmint with some cosmetic issues for under $500 shipped. I have since changed the stock around to an adjustable Boyds, added an MDT rail, etc. Never really handled a 452 before and was blown away from the accuracy and quality as well as the feel of the rifle compared to other rimfires I have handled. Would like to find another Varmint action some time so I could have a stock one for hunting with a lower power scope.
Edit: I also had a newer Savage MarkII G for a while. It didn’t shoot quite as well as my 452 but was pretty darn close.

There is nothing wrong, and everything right with a 452!
