I have just sold a few of my fav pieces to get funds to buy a Longbranch 1944 No.4 MK1* in great shape!! I really have a calling in my head for WWII Milsurps, as I truely beleive things were made how they should be then, and long for a time when shooting well with open sights was looked on as the norm!!!

Heres my problem, I dont reload and wanna shoot this gun alot at the range and hunting aswell!! Im sure I will be in the market for a Mauser 98K in the next year, and dont see that ammo being cheap to shoot aswell!! Good god what have I done?? Is there cheap ammo options for the .303 Brit or the Mauser 8X57??

Better learn to reload if you like those calibers! There hasn't been plentiful, cheap .303 or 8mm Mauser for many moons up here in Canada unfortunately.

Reloading isn't that hard. Heck, if I can do it, you can. Just ask a lot of questions and read a lot.

You'd think Canada would be a great market for the 303 brit. I guess noone cares about us canucks. Yea reloading sounds like the way to go. Some reloading equipment, rather than another rifle, will probably be my next investment.

oh reloading is a great winter hobby. Hunting season is over, too cold for serious Icefishing, what else is there to do.... talk to the wife  Shes not going to be talking with me much after I start discussing buying more guns :( I'll be banished to the basement. But hey thats where my reloading bench is :dancingbanana:

seriously now :runaway: reloading is easy, just need a little equipment and a pile of brass.

Look for a Lee Handloader Kit. No press, everything in a little box, about the size of a pocket novel!
Easiest way to learn, AFAIC!!

"...a great market for the 303 brit..." Yep. Except that nobody has used it or the 8mm Mauser as a military issue cartridge for eons. The supplies of relatively inexpensive milsurp ammo are gone. Plus a great deal of government interference.

Since Lee now makes both a very inexpensive hand press and its equivalent that bolts to a bench, the "Lee loader" is not really hecessary, especially if you plan to do a lot of shooting instead of loading a box or two for deer/moose season.
First of all, BUY A RELOADING HANDBOOK!!!!!!!!! Any brand will do, in order to get the basics.
Reloading is fool proof, but it ain't DAMM FOOL PROOF! Most problems are followed by folks who don't read the instructions.:runaway:

Lee, RCBS, Lyman, and C-H all have websites so one can check prices. Failing that, the gunstore should stock several different types of press.

Oh yeah, cheap ammo options. Rent a time machine and go back 20-30 years or more Thats where you can find cheap ammo. Or you can call Dr. Who and see if he will give you a ride in the Tardis. LOL

You could buy a LB no4mk1* DCRA conversion in 7.62mm. These were post war conversions for the Canadian competitive shooting groups, but other than missing the bayonet lugs, are identical to the WW2 LB. Since these rifles did not go to the field or hunting, they are usually in beautiful shape, and are also usually fitted with the PH5C rear target sight.

These guns draw attention at the range, and are very accurate shooters. There have been quite a few on the EE lately, usally running around $650. If you go this route, look for one with the Sterling conversion magazine. These are the most reliable.

Quite frankly, with both the rear sight and the sterling mag, for around $650, I think these guns are under priced.
