I have been cutting line in the bush and found this old boat in between work sites. Bowater used this boat in the lakes to boom and drive logs. The locals say they would use the winch to drag it from lake to lake.

Nick Adonidas just called... He says he wants the Persephone back...lol

Where in the country is this boat???

This boat is near the Queens/Annapolis county boundary of Nova Scotia.
Here is a better shot of the motor. The motor drives the prop on one end of the crank and the winch on the other. I have never seen any thing like it before

In the middle of friggin nowhere I mean 2 miles of bush to the nearest logging road I found a VHS tape and only a tape not even so much as a pop can there other than the tape titled
" Bob and Ed down by the lake" in hand writing.

A vision of the movie "Deliverance" flashed through my head with Ned Beatty in the sceen tied to a tree and I got the hell back to my truck !
And ya I left the tape there !

CREEPY !!

Found an old two person lumber jack saw once minus the handles since they had rotted away. It was in the vicinity of old stone foundation from an old homestead so there was quite a few other things about. Finding stuff like this is just plain cool and kind of takes you back in time. I love it :)

Great find, but I am pretty sure Bowater didn't exist when they did log drives and it no longer exists today.

I am a forester so logging history is interesting to me. I would be interesting to know the name of the original company that ran the boats. Abitibi has one of the longest histories around here, unfortunately the name has changed to Resolute, no sense of history for some I guess.

Bowater or thier previous name has been logging and making paper in this part of Nova Scotia for a long time. The paper mill in Liverpool was using the mersey river for log drives before it was dammed in 1925 for power. The first paper mill here had a cut stone foundation. I'm no expert but concrete replaced stone in the early 1900's in this area.
