what how to move shoulder back

ok so example is for the 204 ruger brass- how do i 'set' the shoulder back a good 1-2mm ?? in regards to sizing to the 6x47mm (222 rem mag) ?

it isnt moving it back by just running thru the die - at this point i have not bottomed out the die ***

do i need to bottom the die right down to give it the bump it needs- or is there another tooling i need to size this ?

does that 204 case (or any similiar but different) case, does it fully re shape goin up into a different die?

brass flow through enough to alter those shoulder and neck junction?

i use a hornady die in 6x47 fls if that hlps

So what I did was use a 222 rem FLS die to reshape the neck an then put in the 6x47 die.

I got donated shoulders- user error I think...
They did chamber in the gun an would fire form fine.

But it's a bit sucky at this stage- though I am willing to fine tune it.


But some reason, my Hornady 6x47 die is just not going down to the base of the neck ,even turned in all the way-

(It's set up now to partial neck size as to not stress brass at case base...).
But again, even screwed right down it doesn't do the shoulder /neck base...

You could sand a bit off the face of the shell holder to allow the die to set the shoulder back

Fireform with your regular load. Unless your shooting in a bench rest competion, you won't notice the difference.
I have fireformed 223 to 6x45, 223 to 7 tcu, 204 to 6x47, 7 mag to 257 weatherby, 308 to 358, 243 to 7-08, 30-30 to 375 win and 38/55

I would try bottoming out the die first. Shortening the shell holder work (or Redding makes a set of shell holders that let you bump the shoulder back in small increases, 1 thou I think. A set for the 223 works for the 6x47). - dan

Is the shellholder the same brand as the dies ? Sometimes there is a difference between brands as to the distance from the top of the shellholder where the die would contact and the place where the case head would rest. The die makers manufacture their dies to match their shell holders so the distance the reamer goes into their die is to work with their shell holders.

True? No does are Hornady and holder is just basic Lee stuff!

I have had guys that couldn’t get a decent roll crimp on their .357 Mag reloads , had different brands, changed the shellholder to match and presto, perfect crimps. When the two were measured, a .025 difference was found.

I've dug through all my shell holders for a given cartridge (#2 Lee as an example, i have a lot of them) to measure them all to find the shortest one. That allowed me to set my shoulders back just that much to make brass fit my chamber. It works, they are slightly varied. - dan

Im trying to set a shoulder back about as much as in these photos....
Is it do able just via FLS to bump it back say 1mm ??? an form this onne in the MIDDLE from the one on the RIGHT??

or is it another matter completely?

I would cover them with imperial Sizing Wax, including inside the neck, and run a couple through the fl die. Should work, I used to make x57 and x60 cases from 30-06 that way. Messy. But it worked. - dan
