Ok after 9 years with my Merells I need a new boot. I don't do a ton of rocky alpine hunting but I do travel quite a bit on foot. Recommendations ?? I am looking to spend a couple of hundred dollars maybe there is a place someone can recommend to get them cheap ?

I've got a pair of Treksta hiking shoes as well as a pair of their 600gr 8" boots.

I wore the 600's for ten plus days straight looking for moose and never so much as a sore spot or blister. Same for their hiking shoes.

Best part of all is they are super light which turns you into a champ on the longer days. Never underestimate the weight in your search!

I have the 1000gram Irish Setters and they are excellent too.

All three are waterproof too.

Danners All the way
I have a buddy that has Irish settters and his feet were wet for sheep season he even snosealed them during the hunt
needless to say he got some real boots

Funny, best hunting boots I ever had are the ones I bought a couple of months ago.
Cheney brand from Walmart in Mossy Oak $60. Ok I must admit I havenever owned a real good pair of boots, but these are very comfortable and dry. I do have some pull on Irish Setters and they are good but big, I can only wear them on cold days with thick wool socks, not great walkers but good for sitting.

danner hands down maybe be pricey but worth it 100%, if you can find yourself a pair of danner canadians grab them they are an excellent boot

Boots

Jacky I got a nice pair from a Marks Work Warehouse store, the Brand is Daffo, and they were $150.00. I tried the Walmart ones and they would have been a great buy but just didn't fit well. I also tried a new pair of Rocky Lynx for $150.00 but they leaked. Columbia were marketing a nice looking boot this season at Wholesale and they have a number of products on special right now, but I don't think that they are all on the web site.FS

I highly recommend and good quality rubber boot, Thats all I wear though. I can't stand getting wet and muddy. I just picked up some Redhead "bone dry" I believe boots from basspro because they had 1200gr of thinsulate. I love them. They are a little heavy though but they have little spikes that grip ice and that slippery algea stuff on rocks better.

A rubber boot for rocky alpine hunting  Sorry man, that is about the worst advice I have read in a while :p

Ebay for Irish Setter's.......you'll just have to choose the wieght of thinsulate depending on how cold your feet get!:)
The trouble with buying clothing and boots on line is that you don't get to try them on 1st and there is absolutely no size consistency from clothing and boot manufacturers.

I have a pair of sz10 Brownings that are big on me and another sz10 Danners that I can only wear thin socks in order to get them on.

What ever you do, stay away from Rockies. Bought a pair two years ago and they leaked water like a sieve from the get go, still wore them in drier conditions and about 1 month later the soles started pulling off:mad: . I now have Irish Setters that are fantastic, and have heard great things about the Danner's

Another thing to watch out for are boots with soles with hard rubber bottom laminated over a soft foam type core. I've worn several types of these boots for work and hunting and eventually the glue lets go and the hard rubber bottom falls off.

I buy only solid rubber soled boots for work or play.

Plus hard is slippery!

I posted this same question early last fall and settled on either Danner or Irish Setters.

I tried both, but the pair of Irish Setters seem to fit me (personally) better. I have since covered many, many, Km's before, during and after the hunt and could not be happier. I plan to purchase a non insulated pair for the coming warmer weather.

Just try them on with what evey type of sock you would normally wear.

With out question top marks!!!!!!!!

I echo "stay away from Rocky's" My Irish Setters are fantastic. They have done well by me all fall hunting season, 1000gr thinsulate, as I get cold:redface:

Ahem, I like my Rockys, flame away. But I am not Alpine hunting with them either. I do put quite a few miles on them and they are super warm and comfy. Blizzard Stalkers I have. Likely a lot heavier than what you want.

I am with SC on this though, how can you buy boots on the internet. I can't imagine hunting with boots that don't fit perfect. That would be miserable?? My feet hurt just thinking about it.
