Thought I'd post what I've done to my GSG 1911 in case others may want to do it.
First I put a STI tactical adjustable site on it. This has the novak dovetail. I had to take about 10 thou of the front to get it to slide in, but once done, works great.
Second was flat main spring housing. This one is a Springfield armoury, it is a direct replacement. If you are going to use the internals from the gsg (housing was empty) the pin that holds the mainspring in is different on the gsg. I like the flat one better and this also got rid of the magazine safety.
Third was a short STI trigger, this was a drop in replacement.
Two other things I did and please, all you safety nazis, if you don't like it just don't do it to your gun, I don't need your sky is falling lecture.
The gun has a series 80 style firing pin safety, I removed that. If you want to do it, the pin on the slide comes out left to right and has to go back in RIGHT to LEFT. It is larger on the right end.
I also disabled the grip safety and put on new grips I made. Don't know if I like them yet, may make a new set out of rosewood
After adjusting the sear spring the trigger feels the same as my STI edge which is just over 2lbs. I was also lucky as the trigger has zero creep and breaks like glass.
Out at the range this is such a fun gun. Shoots best with stingers, but to expensive. Next works great with minimags (hard to find) and winchesters super speed, will probably end up using these. Used bulk ammo, but had a few FTFeed, I think to the lower velocity.
Hope this helps any body else thinking about doing some mods to theirs.

I've heard the stingers (on cgn, of course) can be pretty rough on the rubber part of the guide rod. Otherwise, very nice. The sights are likely the only thing I am going to change, but it's good to know you really can make the gun your own.

Looks very nice indeed.
How does it shoot?

Are the magazines of the same dimensions as the stock 1911 (except of course for probably indented sides and a differing feed-lip/follower arrangement?

TIA

The mags do a pretty good job of mimicking the dimensions of a full-size 1911 mag. They fit perfectly into the magwell of a normal 1911 and even fit reasonably well in a kydex 1911 mag pouch. The feed lips are definitely much different, so if you do try one out in a standard 1911, make sure the slide is locked back and do not release the slide until the mag is back out of the gun.

The reason behind my question, is that I shoot a 1911 with a Kart top end in .22LR.
The magazines used are the same as for the Colt Ace .22LR pistol.

Those mags tend to be difficult to find, and expensive when found.
Looking for alternatives.

I got mine in the mail 2 days ago & I am impressed with it. In a few days it will go to the range.
I made one change to mine so far. A minor change.
The grip screws are not standard and neither are the grip screw bushings. I had a set of 4 1911 SS bushings & screws on hand and also I had brought in from the U.S. a special tap for the grip screw bushings. They are hard to get in Canada. ( A very fine thread pitch )

Re-threaded my frame & put on standard grip screws & bushings. Now any grip screws will fit. Fortunately the actual grips are the right size.

For now I just bent the grip saftey spring in (towards muzzle) and have a piece of leather between the main spring housing and grip safety to keep it from flopping around (wanted to go shoot it). I will drill it and pin it next time I take it apart to clean it. Will also make a plate to go where the firing pin safety system was, as it is a pain to put the sear and hammer in with the 2 washers I am using for spacers.

Nice GSG 1911! Your grips are outstanding!

NAA.

Good job, indeed! I also took out the firing pin safety, but didn't feel any improvement on the trigger pull. BTW, I used a little shim plate that Brownells sells (cant remember the exact name) to replace the firing pin parts in the frame. If you do the same, you need to ship it to someone in the US, they won't ship this part abroad. As for the grip safety, I just slip a piece of bike tubing over it when shooting.

Good to know about the sight for a future mod.

I adjusted the left and middle leafs on the sear spring. Also though I didn't mic it I compared it to my spare for my edge and it did seem a little thicker.
Disclaimer: I know some will say don't touch it, but just use a little common sense when you do it. If you look at the trigger and it goes off, you can assume you have gone to light. Just adjusting the middle leaf can go a long way in lighting the trigger. Don't try and make it a 1 pound trigger, that is what a good gunsmith is for. Again common sense, go test it , only put three rounds in. Do about 20 mags like this, if no problems then load it up and try it. If you don't feel comfortable doing it, take it to a smith.

I have to thank bkjedi here on cgn. He gave me a smokin deal on the sight, main spring housing and trigger.
Does anyone know where to get this SA adjustable sight? I'm fed up with adjusting my aim to make the gun shoot straight. Also, a slightest bump on the plastic front sight moves it, I want a proper FO front sight as well. This gun shoots very well, and deserves nice metal sights.

Sorry, I meant "STI tactical adjustable site"...

Well, I'm going to the US next weekend, and thought I could save a few bucks. I understand which rear sight to order, however...

Does anyone know what type of FO front sight would fit the GSG? I saw someone post on 1911 forum that it uses standard .330 x 65 X.075 dovetail base. Looking at Brownells, the only one I see is the Caspian 60N Fiber Optic Sight that has these dimensions. When I check MidwayUSA, the .330 x 65 X.075 are quoted for Kimber, Les Baer, and XS. But when I check Kimber sights by EGW on Brownells it shows .070 depth not .075.

Can someone who knows for sure please help? I need to order this ASAP so it arrives at my buddy's place by next weekend...
