I see why people dont make more 80% lowers - It is a PITA.

I cant beleive some people sell 80%'s as a drill and drop in item -- these ones SUCK - file - drill - file - file - polish - drill - file.
and then cheesily engrave some markings.

I did not drill the auto sear yet - while the inner was easy to hog out - the jig I got does not have a auto sear hole - and I need to wait till we have some down time to strip my M4A1 to get the proper dimension and placement for the hole.
 
Looks good so far. What kind of tools are you using to complete it? Mill? Drill press? Hand drill? Also what kind of aluminum is it made from?

A guy on gunbroker is selling an auto-sear drilling jig (I don't think I'm allowed to hotlink) just type in "M-16 Auto Sear Drilling Jig"

a guy on gun broker is selling a jig for the sear hole. maybe he'll send to to the far east?

BTW i found it best to install a stripped upper to use as a holder to the get the buffer threads nice and true. also cuts down on the harmonics when reaming it out.

These lowers are the worst 80%;s I've ever seen - soem guy out of the US -- its more like a 40% lower.

I'm begining to think it would have been easier to just get the raw forgings and mill it from there.

I'll put some pics up of the tools and process involved later today.

My understanding on a lot of the 80% lowers that end up on the market are that they've failed the QC checks in the factory and would be junked anyhow....

I always get the rubber glove coming into Canada. People wonder why I like living in the US better - maybe since the gov't entities treat me nicely...

Seriously its retarded - Flying into and out of the middle east where they have the most stringent security precautions and searches for the umpteenth time - I had a PRI front sight taken - since it was a weapons part - and you cant leave Iraqi with weapons or anything that may have touch a weapon...
