What if I am not a meat hunter? What do I do with the deer?

In my opinion, don't bother going then.

If you eat moose, go moose hunting - and go with someone with a truck. If you eat duck, go duck hunting. Hunters have a bad enough image with the 'anti-hunting crowd' that we don't need to give 'them' any more ammunition.

Food for thought...

Apparently, some animals need to be killed. Or something like that.....:p Oh wait, that was varmints...:redface:

Anybody ever seen that movie about exploding prarie dogs? Would something like that be ok or is that wrong as well?

Yes its wrong! My rule to my kids: "You kill it....you eat it." Exceptions to this rule; mice(in the house) and rats (anywhere), non-indigenous invasive species, and self defence.

Well, this may have been mentioned already but I ain't readin' this LAS. :D
Anway, I guess all you folks that agree you eat what you kill are strongly against any type of safari/trophy hunting, right? Even though the meat from those hunts is usually given to local communities, it's still wrong since that hunter isn't going to eat that Cape Buffalo himself, right?

Bull####. B U L L S H I T! it's great fun and the most enviromentally sound form of contol for these farmyard pests. some fo the best marksmanship training I have ever done.


The DVD is Dog-Be-Gone. I bought it, great fun :D
 
It has always been held that destroying pests or varmints (or predators where necessary) is perfectly valid.

Gophers and prarie dogs are exceptionally destructive. Shooting them is just a valid way to control population.

Personally i don't care for the video. I think it makes the deaths of the animals gratuitous and glorifies the killing, which i don't personally think much of. But that's me. Killing gophers is a 'must do' on the praries.

Generally i don't go out of my way to shoot varmints and the like without a reason, but it is something that's part of management of the wild.
 
i cant help it i have to respond to this thread,if its gophers or prairie dogs..ie something that is hurting the environment,shoot them.all other edible game animals,if you are not going to eat it ...dont shoot it .
 
Yes, I saw the video when I was going my hunter sfatey course and my instructor told me that it has to be done because there are so many of them. I thought the movie was pretty funny and it's cool how some of them just blew up. I wonder what kind of gun they were using to shoot those little things?!

Foxer you CRAZY kid. You havent lived till you have gone out of your way to shoot varmints.:)
 
about the cape buffalo meat ... at least someone is eating it that's what we are saying i don't know how you can go hunting without some way of getting your kill out of the area? that is what this thread is all about no one who hunts wants to see any good game meat go wasted and unappreciated. population control of prairie dogs the meat does get eaten by scavengers and we used to keep them for our bear bait sites, just try to use them don't be wasteful if it can be avoided i think that's the name of the game.
 
The Number one rule I teach my kid about hunting (apart from Gun safety) is that you never shoot an animal if you are not going to eat it or give it to someone who you have made arrangements with prior to going out hunting.

I only agree with Trophy hunting if the meat of that animal is not wasted.
