Alot of the people that shoot the matches from TR to F-class to precision etc. own a healthy collection of firearms.
Alot I know also own an AR-15 type rifle.

What if there was a dicipline that was similar but geared toward an AR type platform and shot at various yardages, designed to let the AR stretch its legs and reach out a bit.

Would you be interested in trying/shooting it ??

There is. It is Service Conditions competition. 500m down. You are in Barrie. Check the ORA. They run matches at Borden. Or OSA, near Kinmount.

mis nomer

O.k. let me re phrase this.
Not geared toward but Specific for AR type platforms, as in ONLY AR type rifles.
Alot/ most of the precision guys are shooting bolt rifles.
Not service,,,,,, no running.

Mike.

OK, not Service Conditions style shooting then.
Precision rifle type shooting for AR type rifles?

yeah! Prone type shooting for AR's , or their like types.
There is shoots for older military type rifles why not the newer type.
SL8's, sig's etc.

For the last number of years I've been competing successfully in precision rifle (sniper) competitions with an AR15. My AR15 has been set up as a long range target rifle. It has a 24" SS target barrel, freefloat tube and target trigger. I've been fairly successful with this setup. The ORA has 3 classes of rifles for precision shooting. These are .223 class, 308 class and unlimited, which is everything else. I'm competing in the .223 class and my AR15 can compete successfully with any bolt-action setup in that caliber. In fact, sometimes when there are no other .223 class shooters, I compete in the .308 class and I don't feel disadvantaged there. I'm shooting 75gr AMAX bullets at muzzle velocities averaging 2950fps. I have to seat these bullets out farther than the max OAL to fit the mag, so it's single shot shooting only. This is ok for precision matches though because there are at least 10sec between shots. Precision rifles matches are held from 300y/m - 800y/m and involve shooting at moving targets and pop-up targets (snap shooting) as well as deliberate shoots (15 min for 10 shots + 2 sighters). All shooting is done off bipods or rests and prone.

RD, consider using Benchmark and CCi 450 primers. You will be able to seat the bullets to fit in the mag. They will look a little goffy as the case neck IS in front of the ogive.

Seem to function just fine in a HK and TAVOR.

Very accurate too.

You could also consider a 70gr Berger. That will be more length tolerant - shorter.

I'll play. I like the no running part. Let's get rid of the bipods and rest, off the elbows, slings and jackets US style except all prone out to 600.

What is stopping you from using an AR15 in existing matches? I see no reason why they can't be used in precision/tactical/F-class type matches like RifleDude is doing.

Is standing and kneeling okay, as in U.S. National course?:D
I'd use one , it's just that I can't get my head around a semi auto anything!

Ok, this is getting confusing,,,, why is everyone trying to fix this ?
No, nothing is stopping me from using an AR against the others right now, that wasn't the question. If I wanted i could also unscrew the muzzle brake off of the fifty and shoot the match with it to.

"If there was an AR (ish) only platform match resembling the F-class / precision way of doing things would you be interested in shooting it? "

No running , some static targets, some moving maybe, All AR (sig,hk,fnar) type rifles.

Standing is OK but kneeling isn't possible anymore with this bum knee:(
I shot with guys in the US this summer and most load one at a time and are shooting 80 gr bullets. Matches down there are a bit odd, first 2 matches of the day scopes are allowed and the third match is irons only unless you are shooting F class.

Hmmm... I don't think I'd bother with an AR only league. Smaller turn out and half the fun of using an AR is beating the bolt action guys with your "inaccurate gas gun".

You do have me thinking of building up an AR for F-Class though.
