What is a better brand? .500 S&W

I am sorry, if you have other handguns, then you will have idea of what you are getting into.
Interesting little note, ran down to the range tonight and we cleaned the floor, and found a couple 500 cases laying on floor, Really!
Don't know who had one, not while I was there.

I have both the 500 S&W and 460 S&W. If I bought the 460 first I probably would not have bought the 500. The 460 is much more versatile. Its also has one hell of a blast. So far the only gun that has a bigger blast that's been fired at my range is the 50 BMG.

I bought a .500 this year for a very specific purpose. I will be competing in an event this summer called "The Big Push" in which I will be required to send 3 bowling pins 14.5 feet backwards on a steel table.
I agonized over the decision to get a 460 or the 500. I chose the .500 because of the terminal ballistics. I need that big bullet to dump all its energy into the pin without going through. I reckon I don't need the higher velocities of the .460 to do this.
I'm reloading 500gr Hornady's and 460gr Lee cast bullets with a gas check. Both are hot as hell and have the more muzzle energy than a hot 12ga slug !
Shooting this gun is quite a thrill (read scary). The recoil will injure your hand so I use an anti-vibration, gel-filled glove insert to avoid the bruising. (Sometimes I double-up the gel inserts)
This gun will destroy concrete blocks and turn cabbages into a 30 foot wide spray of coleslaw. Also demolishes 7 pound, maple wood bowling pins nicely.
I'm still trying to work up the best load for pins. And trying to work up a 300gr plinking load.
Lot's of fun.

At the same time you've just bought the world's best reason to also buy a reloading outfit. Back when I had a Thompson Center Encore chambered in 500S&W Mag I was able to reload for roughly 80 cents a round. Prices are up on components now but you can likely still find 350gn jacketed bullets and reload for a bit less than a buck per shot.

Great another reason to buy more things. LOL never done reloaded as 12G is my main fun and thats just not worth it.

I just want the big hand cannon. It will come out like a few times a year for fun and thats it. Just for fun and to say you have the biggest handgun LOL.

Sorry about the dark exposure.

.500 S&W mag versus pumpkin

THIS IS WHY I WANT ONE. LOL

you couldn't have went wrong with either but I believe the 500 was the right choice. I owe a 500sw, 460sw and am just waiting for my newly purchased Desert Eagle 50AE to transfer. Something about the big bore calibers excite me

Thank everyone for your input. I have ordered the S&W 500. Cant wait to try it out!

If you're interested, PM me your e-mail address and I'll send you a couple of photos of mine, showing the modified Jordon Trooper grips I made mention of previously. Also, a few examples of the accuracy I've got with it. There's a site member who I get my cast bullets from and he has a good selection available. Oh, one last item, brass. Some of the earlier Hornady brass I have is made only to accept LP primers. However, some of the 'warmer' loads, using H110, LP primers are a little lacking. Newer brass, Starline for example, is made to accept LR primers. That has cured the boarderline ignition I was getting with some of the earlier brass available when using H110. That brass I save for lighter load applications.
