What is a cheap to shoot, non-restricted, semi-auto, centerfire?

I would in a heartbeat! But the range only nature of restricted rifles takes away a lot of the fun (for me).

If you think reloading is something you could get into go for something like an XCR in .223.

My cost for match grade ammo:

Bullet: 23 cents (68 grain Hornady match)
Primer: 3 cents
Powder: 11 cents
Brass: free (I had hundreds lying around, pick it up at the range)
Total: 37 cents a round or $7.40 a box of ammo, and this is with a match bullet. This ammo will be far more accurate than cheap surplus and its really not very expensive.

Duckbill mags are more bulky, don't fit into pouches well and are more difficult to swap out (both due to the nature of placing a duck mag and the mag release is a b!tch to actuate.

Get an sks-d if you decide on an sks and want the black rifle type functionality.

So basically get an 858? Lol

The SKS D Killer does have the Duckbill mags and probably are hard to swap but its cheaper to purchase. I'm a "married with children college student" so I had to be very careful with money for this purchase and thats why I bought the D killer. That being said I haven't had the money to buy more mags and have found that switching back to the stock floor plate and using stripper clips has been more convienient to for me use until I decide to buy more.

Buy an 858, cheap to shoot, lots of fun toys to bolt on (as many as any AR) and it looks close enough to an AK to eternally p*ss off any anti you might encounter. Also you can choose restricted or non-restricted.

I prefer the 7.62x39mm over the .223 any day. Don't know why which is weird but I do..223 to me is basically a .22 on Roids.Of coarse it's very accurate but i like the Damage from 7.62.surplus

CZ with a crate of ammo. Mod it a bit and have fun. While you are doing that, save your pennies and build the AR of your dreams.

Four pages and the CZ has only been mentioned a hundred times - go figure. It is the way to go. More mods available than just about anything and cheap ammo. I have been paying about $3.15 a box.

Just wondering how the 858 fits into "modern looking". It looks a lot like a AK which come out in 1947 where the sks come out in 1945. Im not saying either one is a bad choice but neither one are exactly modern looking.

"Modern" is relative, I guess. Some of the tactical 858's look pretty modern.
