What is a knox (or nocks) form on a rifle?

Don't feel bad, I took two years of gunsmith training and have been gunsmithing for 47 years... never heard of it before... but then I have never been into Lee Enfield rifles either...

It's not just on Lee Enfields - but is most often encountered on military bolt actions of yesteryear and one some English sporting rifles of the pre-WW2 era.

You have to go back further than yesteryear I think... and not that common in the last ... what - 100 years? Other than the Lee Enfield name six.
