What is a Mauser converted to .308 worth?

If it is a 1895 chilean converted to 7.62 than I wouldn't shoot it period. We need pictures or a description otherwise this whole thread is completely useless.

Are you ****ing kidding me?

This response made me LOL! ;)

Also, Nelson, don't you think we've all pretty much seen that Spanish 7.62 Carbine by now??? We are in the Milsurp section here, most of us check the EE many times daily...

BTW: That rifle isn't necessarily overpriced, those rifles just are not very desirable compared to say an FR8 or a K98, etc. It doesn't help that there is the never ending debate about 7.62 NATO/.308.... Add to that the type of Mauser action and the steels used...

Personally, I wouldn't hesitate to shoot .308 or 7.62 out of that rifle, YMMV.

If the one you are looking at is the Spanish 1916, I think I would grab it.

Yes, the Spanish did develop a special light load for the 7.62 NATO cartridge, but that was because of the roller-locking system on their CETME rifles. It had nothing to do with Mausers. Because they were using a slightly-light loading, they were able to convert a lot of older-pattern Mausers to handle it.

SECRET to accuracy (and accuracy is what gets your deer, not missing him with a million ft/lbs ME) with almost ANY military rifle is to handload your ammo to about 10% UNDER military spec.

Do this and you will have a lifetime rifle which is a real Milsurp to boot.

BORE on that one looks absolutely yummy. WISH I could afford it!

Cool!
Usually "What's it worth?" threads are from folks about to sell something...generates hype etc. OP is just being a prudent shopper. That's kind of refreshing (and explains why you didn't post a pic).

One tidbit about the EE...if something is priced too low, it's only there for a few minutes. As suggested, most of us check the EE a couple of times a day. I don't think that one is priced too high, but these Mausers don't seem to have the same desireability among collectors.

I pm him but no response maybe his ross put him in the hospital or something. Kidding I have a ross and love it. Any other way to get a hold of someone on the EE?

Thank you for that inspiring vote of confidence.

Some of us work damned hard trying to help people.

In my own case, roughly 90 percent of my post count is posts trying to help folks. There are others who work just as hard.

Some day it might be YOUR turn to ask for help.......

When looking at a firearm to buy, and the seller is hesitant about giving a price but asks me to give them an offer, I have found that this is a no-win situation. If you quote a price that is realistic and what it is worth to you, and it is lower than the seller expects, you are then a Crook attempting to get his priceless antique firearm for almost nothing.

If your realistic price is higher than the seller expects, then the seller begins to think that if it is worth that to someone who knows about guns and it has to be worth a lot more. Either way, you lose.

My answer to a seller asking me to set a price has always been "I can not buy it and sell it both."

After reading this thread, it seems that over the last 60 years or so I have been mistaken, and someone has figured out how to both buy and sell a firearm.Laugh2

Without Smellie and Buffdog I would probably be trying to load my rifle with the cartridge backwards and getting frustrated that it won't chamber!!

Or even worse, collecting plastic ninja guns with laser beams!!!

I don't think the issue here is not wanting to help, but the shady, and odd way he went about it. It started as what's it worth, like he was selling, and ended up as what does it shoot.
And it is far from overpriced, I think anyone could see that.

Had he just been honest and provided details, his questions would have been answered quickly. But he wanted to play games so no one would "scoop" the rifle that's been bumped twice.

Once again, I'm not above helping, that is the point of the forum, but the right questions must be asked, and the asker must help out a little bit.

Ninjas don't use guns. Lol. You'd be collecting ebay swords. Hahaha

Ain't that the truth. I guess some of us are better at wording our questions then others.

Still though like I said, something like 2 years ago I got my PAL and started shooting. I literally knew nothing!! Now since finding the worlds 2 best mentors I reload, cast my own boolits for 3 different calibers, have done brass conversions and most importantly I'm HOOKED!!

But yeah I do agree the OP could have let the cat out of the bag. It's not like most of us don't check the EE 15 times per day and snap up any deals that we find right away!!

Actually it wasn't directed to anyone but the OP. Sorry if you construed it towards you.

It was more along the lines of what was already said..."You've got to be ####ing kidding me..." mixed in with a long "Grooooooooooooooooooan..."
regarding this threads direction and the shady way it was presented. Yah he wanted help, but the way it was given us all is somewhat facepalm worthy.

I find your answers extremely informative and enjoy reading them.
