What is a model 29 worth?

Same answer as every other post like this. It depends on the vintage and condition, is it a low production version. A mint condition M29, M29-1, M29-2 is worth a lot more than a beat up late model. The price range based on your wide open criteria is $500-$2500.
If you're looking for a realistic price for a very nice M29-2, which is still collectible, but not a safe queen you're afraid to shoot, I'd say $900-$1100 range.

I missed the boat on <4.1" barreled hand guns by about 19 years. But I've noticed prohibited guns are cheaper than their non prohibited counterpart.
That's a good answer. Sums it up nicely, thanks. Does barrel length, 6, 6 1/2, 8 3/8, play a big role in the value?
The early 29s are definitely collectible and will command a premium. Would love an early model from the mid 50s.
Everyone loves the 29-2s because they are pinned and recessed but I tend to avoid them unless I can inspect them first or they are listed as absolutely mint from a trusted source. There was a lot of variability with the 29-2s (particularly with the 70s productions). Many samples I've held were a little sloppy from use. Anything 29-5 or later has the full factory endurance package and can better handle a steadier diet of warmer/factor 44 mag ammo. For a shooter, anything -5 or later is what I would look for. The -5s are more valuable to me as they were produced before the use of MIM parts (whether that makes any practical difference I don't care), and pre lock.

I paid 1100 for a dead mint 29-2. Worth every penny.
