I've been looking at things like 1.5-2 inch groups at 15 meters that manufacturers and the owners of their guns are bragging about. Not to get into a wizzing match but my 73 SAA will shoot WAY tighter than that. That having been said I would like those who do more handgun shooting than me what is considered a GOOD group. Lets use that 15 meters again. Is 1.5-2 a normally good group and me ole colt is a desendant of the dead man's gun. However, having said that my webley WG was even tighter than my colt

If you're not stretching the truth about your groups with your SAA then you're already a good shooter and MIGHT benefit from some of the better shooting semis. I say "might" because it depends on which of you is the real star in your current results, you or the gun. Or if it's an even partnership. If it's mostly you or an even sharing then there's some nice semis that would get your groups even smaller. Things like the seriously good rimfire semis such as a S&W Model 41 or a CZ Kadet are two that spring to mind.

On the center fire front I'm pretty sure that a Sig P210 would work well for you. But those might be out of your budget.

A number of mid priced 1911's shoot very well for me and others. And with a bit of tuning can really prove to be excellent shooters.

There's likely lots of individual examples of "duty" style semis that can also perform well. But such guns don't really come with guarantees of such performance.

Are you talking shooting off a rest? One handed or two handed?

If you can shoot 1 1/2 to 2 inch groups one handed with no rest at 15 meters with an old SAA Colt you are indeed a very good shot with a pistol.

How many shots do you fire in a group? With a pistol the general rule is 10 shot groups.

Probably one shot groups ;)

What is an accurate handgun?

One raggedy hole groups, all day long, if I did my part.

That would be an accurate handgun to my way of thinking.

Not that I can actually do it...lol.... :p

NAA.

A number of years back when I was hot & heavy into paper punching, I shot this off hand at 20yds

with this 1957 vintage Colt Python that has since been 'adopted' and trade made for a relpacement '+' with bigi.

Suprisingly, another of my most accurate, is my 500 S&W.

Doesn't seem to matter what I 'feed' it, cast, jacketed, hot or light loads, it does well.

Last but not least, my Kimber Super Match II in 45 ACP, with Kimbers custom shop 'tune-up' is no slouch either.

I'm new. If I can hit the 12" target page at 15m's, I'm happy.
An open hand sized group @ 7.5m
Fist size group at 5m's.

I don't bench rest my pistols, so super tight groups aren't a big deal to me.
I know that when I start using Rifles I'll start worrying about how many MOA my shots are..

For now.. Hitting the target is all I worry about.

Example..@7.5m For me, that's good. I'm still ironing out the bugs in my grip/stance/muscle memory..

Way tighter then 1.5-2 Inches at 15yards with your SAA and even better with the old Webley eh.
Nice.

I'd be happy putting them all in the same ragged hole at 15 yards.

there is at least one custom 1911 builder that advertises a 1.5" 5 round group standard for it's 1911's at 50 m. Out of a ransom rest, but that's the only what to tell if a pistol is capable of repeat ability. I don't think any bullseye competitor would be happy with anything that wouldn't shoot 1 to 1.5" at 25 yards ...and they do it offhand.

The accuracy potential of colt SAA's or clones is very high if the cylinders index correctly and the chamber throats are correctly sized. The biggest challenge with them is getting a consistent sight picture. Many target shooters in the past used the but often modified the frames with an adjustable sight.

Nintendo duck hunt gun is the most accurate!!!! Sorry I couldn't help it. But really I have a few STI guns and my USPSA is very accurate. It is in 9mm.

No this is standing but a two hand hold

1.5" at 20m with my 44 mag raging bull (when I'm doing my part)
3-4" with the 1911
4" with the m&p

My problem is i tend to squeeze off rounds faster and faster with the semi's lol
