I know might be a dumb question, I'm just a tad unclear what exactly is involved in bedding a m14 stock. I have a Birch stock which I'm currently sanding down, I would post some pictures but left the camera at the inlaws.

Any picture or step/step guide to bedding a birch stock on here?

Bedding is the application of resin (some are steel, aluminum, cobalt, titanium, unobtanium and other exotic #### retaining materials) between the receiver (mortises, rear horseshoe tang, trigger housing contact points) and the somewhat routed out/ grooved stock surfaces.

The resin allows a supportive, unshifting, ultra reliable and therefore consistent shot placement interface (whew....;) ) so that the barreled action is solidly supported by the (hopefully stiff and NOT noodly) stock (NM spec is nice, super stiff , super FAT).

Illustrations and glass bedding M1's and M14's can be found all over the internet. I've stopped committing websites to memory. Google is your friend ;) ...

I try to do a rifle or two at each M14 clinic we hold. Lots of fun!

Wobbles99 and HarryBlackbeaver are experts now!! ;) Look for their posts on this forum. Wobbles99 posted a long and detailed post somewhere here....

Hope this helps!

Thanks Hungry, sounds complicated, any chance you would have some time in the next little while? I hear there is a great Keg near your place, or I can get you a nice box of steaks from my butcher.

Sure thing, we can fix you up. I'm flying to Calgary Sun 05 Jul and back on 12 Jul Sunday. After I return, we can arrange to have you over here in Collingwood area for a glass bedding session. I'm on holidays now. My schedule after 12 July will be wide open to slot your M14 project in. :D

What is bedding...

I always thought that it was when you could get a woman to go to bed with you!?!

That's my first thought.....the stuff that you hear buzz about in your ear at the store, mention of 400 count and something or rather but still ends up roughed and thrown on the floor at the end of the night. :p
