You are trying to compare apples to oranges.

The Ruger represents an excellent value in a popular priced firearm.

The original High Standard is one of the two finest American made target pistols, the other is the S&W41.

Pay your money & take your choice you don't get a Cadillac for the price of a Chevy, not that there is anything wrong with a Chev.

Avoid the Texas produced clones of the High Standard. They are far below the original in terms of quality.

Rod.

I have a HS Military Trophy with a 5.5inch bull barrel and I prefer it to the Ruger (which I have shot a lot of rounds through).

I also have a Browning Medalist and I slightly prefer the HS with the bull barrel. I found that the Medalist and the HS (this model) were equal from an accuracy point of view, but the HS was lighter to hold and felt better. This is a handling preference and not a performance preference.

The High Standard is a better gun. I am currently using a High Standard Victor and I'm averaging 280's in Bullseye. If your just going to plink with it, then get the one you like. If you are going to get into Bullseye competition then go with the High Standard
