when a person puts and particular unit for sale "as new in box" or "new in box" and "never fired" OR "put 15/or how many rounds through it"
what is new? fired or not fired?

For EE purposes NIB means I saved the box and didn't really shoot it much. Condition would be better than "super duper".

New in box, never handled, never removed from box
Like new in box, can be handled but so signs of use
Never fired means just that, could be dropped, scratched, who knows but never fired.

New = never used/shot

New in box = never removed from original packaging

If you shot 15 rounds thru it or 500... Its used ! Its like those car with "only higway milage" 1km is 1km

Not true. 100 000km of commuting to work 50km each way on the highway is very different from 100 000km of pizza delivery with stops every 1-2km...

Same can be said for guns, 500rds in 50 range sessions isn't much, but 500rds in an hour is...

As others have said, new means new. You bought it, didn't use it. Like new means its used but still looks like it's new.

To me New means, new product from factory sold by a store. Otherwise it's used. To what degree is a matter of opinion. Even if it's never been used by the person that's selling it I consider it a previously owned gun and wouldn't pay new gun prices for it.

Your mileage may vary but that's just my opinion.

For private sales, to me New means never fired. New in Box means everything is there as from the factory, box, manuals etc. Any marks I expect to be told about. I don't expect something to have never been opened, not many dealers can even honestly claim that unless its an item with lots of inventory, ie a Ruger 10/22 at Bass Pro. To me though, I won't pay dealer prices for a new gun bought privately. A dealer will provide some after sales service that is not expected privately.

Well yeah, most people are going to want to see the gun out of the box before they pay for it. I know I've always taken the gun out of the box to take a look at the particular specimen I am looking to buy, display models are great to get an idea of the gun but when its time to pay up I want to check out MY gun before any money changes hands.

That’s Exactly how I look at it. You walk out the store it’s used IMO

While that is technically true, I wouldn't have a problem paying close to retail for something that hasn't been used at all. Even if I pay sticker price (say a gun is $499, buy it for $500 shipped) you still come ahead $50+ between taxes and shipping...
