Hey all,

Looking at buying an antique from a gent on here. Great guy, no doubt its an antique, but gun only has serial numbers on it. No date or places of manufacture, and lots of parts may be aftermarket. The gun seems like it would make a great shooter, but I really need to get that dam letter! What is the process and how hard/easy is it? (gun is an 1858 remington)

Cheers,
Duncan

All 1858 Remington percussion revolvers are antique. No reason to get an RCMP letter. If you wish to register the pistol by getting a letter, just call the CFC, get patched through to Ottawa.

The antique letter is just another paper trail from shooter to government. I suggest carrying a copy of the antique handgun regulations and copy the information about the gun from a good book something like Flaydermans and carry it with the regs. My.02!

On the positive side, that letter may prove helpful if and when one runs into a game warden or other LEO.
