Claresholm was a wartime BCATP base which was re-opened in 1951. 3 FTS operated ther flying Harvards until re-located to Gimli,MB. RCAF Stn Claresholm closed in 1958. I believe the hangars were used for aircraft storage for a time after closure. Value of the plaque??? Maybe something to a person who was stationed there or a resident of Claresholm.

For those of you who are wondering what BCATP stands for, it is British Commonwealth Air Training Plan. This was an agreement made by Canada, Britain, Australia and New Zealand on December 17, 1939 to train Commonwealth pilots for the second world war here in Canada. The costs were to be borne by all four countries, but Canada paid the largest portions. After their training here in Canada, they deployed to overseas service with the RAF. There was 107 schools here in Canada and these schools trained a total of 131,000 aircrew by the war's end, notably, 73,000 were Canadians.

If I owned that plaque, I would donate to the Lancaster musuem in Nanton, Alberta. If you are close enough, or travelling near by and have not seen this museum, it is a little gem in the middle of nowhere and a MUST see. last year we (my Mother and I) watched them run up two of the engines on the Lanc they have there, and it was something to hehold. My Mom worked on the Lancs during the war as an electrical inspector, for which I am particulary proud. Check out the Nanton Lancastor Society website.

British and Canadian bases always made and sold military plaques. Britian has them now new selling for about 40-60 Canadian, at Naffi or on line. Here Canadian new sell in Cnaex or on line for around 30-40. I have been selling 2 Brit ones from 1960's at 40 each with no offers.
RCAF plaque from the 1950's will go for 20-30 dollars at the shows. A beer stein German made with Canadian unit that was based over there will get you 50 and up depending on craftsmanship.
A simular plaque of WWII years is worth a lot more than your 1961 cold war one.
