I have a Remington 788 in .308w LEFT HAND which I purchased new in 1972. Where do I need to go to get a value put on it.
It is in good condition and has less than 100 rounds thru it. I have read about this model and am torn between selling or keeping it. The fact that it is LH makes it somewhat rare. Have spare magazine also.
I am new here so be gentle.

Ed... take a look in the "newbie faq's" section... there is a good guide there on how to post pics... your firle's worth depends on many factors... condition being the first...

Well, according to my outdated Blue Book of gun Values(26th edition)
A 60% condition is listed at $165.00 up to 100% listed at $375.00.
Add 10% for a leftie in 308. with 1969-1979 manufacture.
Just what the book offers on page 1262.
Myself, I have never seen one.
Just an FYI.

The 788 was made in leftys only in 308 and 6mm, one would think they would have made 243 but they didn't.

A note to people who might want to buy a lefty 788,......they are not a true lefty,...the ejection port and the safety are on the same side as a RH 788.

I would suspect $300, not a popular rifle there it seems.

I think with patience one could get more than that, especially as it is left-handed because the lefties don't get as many choices. They seem to have a bit of a minor cult-following going. I had one in .22-250 and it was a good rifle, but I won't drink Kool-aid for it.

Seems like it is in above average condition and I wouldn't be surprised if someone paid as much as m777 suggests, $500. Although I personally wouldn't give more for a used 788 than a bit under the price of a new Stevens 200, some people do.

If you're going to sell it, PM me as my buddy might want to buy it. He's looking for a left hand bolt rifle for a decent price.

As I said, not sure to sell, but thanks for inquiry.
By the way, as previously mentioned it is not a full LH model, but it works for me.
The only bug I have with it is that since the safety is on the RHS, when you sling it on your left shoulder as I do the safety has a tendency to disengage from S to F after a decent stroll through the bush.
Because of that I never have a shell loaded while I'm slinging it.
Cheers.
