What is Mapleseed?

I signed up for 2 events this year, the improvement in my abilities was amazing and more than worth the time and money spent. My first attempt 3 years ago was with a bolt and I scored 160-180 out of 250.
This year I squeaked out a patch at the beginning of summer, in oct I scored 233, 236 and 245 out of 250.
I honestly can’t say enough good things about the program and instructors.

I recommend you sign up for the notification on the Project Mapleseed website https://mapleseedrifleman.com/

There are events all over Canada though things are slowing down for the winter.

It's a fabulous way to brush up your skills. I think OP is in Alberta. There is a great very active shoot boss that puts on many events there

The website has lots of information.

Thanks for the heads up!

Rayzor - there is a new and upcoming website that is a gateway to seemingly endless information on a huge range of subjects. It's not very well known but if you want to give it a try you can go to www.google.com . For an example, if you wanted to know what mapleseed is, you could type in "mapleseed shooting event" and see what comes up. I think it will literally blow your mind!

So basically there is no point in a forum to interact with like minded individuals about a common interest then? Yes I have Google'd Mapleseed but wanted to get first hand experiences and opinions. But I do want to thank you for your input. Have a great day.

PS. I'm sure you have read the whole post, but I also asked about ORPS (also Google'd it) and wanted input on what people bought for set up, you know first hand input from other like minded and knowledgeable individuals.

Hey Rimfire folks,

Was at the range couple of weeks back, finished up a steel challenge. On the way to my car I noticed on another range there was a Mapleseed event going on. If I had time I would've stopped in to ask about it. So for those of you that have shot this, what is it all about? Is it a form of OPRS? I hear about it a lot on Slamfire radio, and by the way why is it called Mapleseed? Do you need an expensive, buy once cry once set up to participate?

PS. I have a GSG16, can I use that for Mapleseed?

My other question is for OPRS, what kind of budget do I need for a buy once cry once set up?

Thanks in advance.
Ray

Hi, Project Mapleseed is a marksmanship program. We instruct on the fundaments 1) proper positioning (prone, seated, standing) 2) firing the perfect shot 3) NPOA - working with your natural point of aim. Bring a rifle that works for you. Bolt action is adding an extra layer of challenge but if that is what you have bring it. The most common rifles on the line are 10/22 or Savage Mark II, you need at least 2 magazines and a sling (if you do not have a sling we offer loaners). We shoot approx 350 rnds at an event, therefore most people bring 22lr rifles. The day is about moving the barometer on your shooting skills but we do have a Mapleseed qualifying test grind during the afternoon. This allows you to take everything that you learned and apply it, with the possibility of earning a much sought after rifleman patch.

Mapleseed is different from ORPS or CRPS. Mapleseed is about learning the fundamentals. ORPS or CRPS is about PRS shooting with rimfire rfiles. A suggestion by those who organize or shoot ORPS/CRPS is to take a Mapleseed first. There is even a "Have you taken a Mapleseed yet" stage...

Keep in the loop by joining the Project Mapleseed page as well as the Discussion Group on Facebook. You can also sign up for event notification on the website.

Hope to see you at an event soon

If they held an event in Manitoba, I'd like to go with my boys.
I went to a maple seed in 2018 at the range in St Andrews. Awesome event but they sell out fast, think they’ve held one at that club every year since. Hoping they come around again next year and I can try out a new 1022 I picked up. Gotta watch those event listings close around spring that’s when they’ll be announced and you can grab your tickets.

May have to be self-study for awhile as long as COVID encourages solitary time at the range; maybe when in-person coaching becomes a thing again we can return to traditional ways.
