What is my gun worth? .338-06 Parker Hale Mauser Action

Hello there,

I'm wondering if there is anyone on the site that might be able to help me out with trying to track down what my rifle might worth? Last year I received a Parker Hale custom rifle as a Christmas gift from my dad. It originally was a .30-06, but was bored out to a .338-06. I believe the barrel was shortened. And a nicer stock was also added from what I was told. It has the mauser action, and this past week I was finally able to shoot it after mounting my new scope to it. However being a "custom gun", I'm not sure I'll be holding onto after this hunting season is over. Right now I'm shooting some .225 grain loads and do have some .250 grain loads for my upcoming elk hunt.

The last couple of days I've tried to get an idea of what it might be valued at if I do decide to part with it at the end of the year, but I haven't really been able to find any comparables. Does anyone have any information on where I might be able to get a better idea of the value? I will add some pictures that I do have here shortly.

Hard to put a price on it without more details and pictures.
Do you know the source of the stock?
Factory barrel or aftermarket?
Ps, love my 338-06. I load the 210gr ttsx and nosler partitions.
 
Parker Hale rifles were quite popular a few decades ago, and were mid-range, value-priced rifles. A used PH rifle in good original condition might fetch +/- 500$. They had a habit of cracking stocks, so that may be the reason yours was re-stocked. Re-boring to a relatively obscure caliber is a mixed blessing, as it only appeals to someone that is into that caliber. Assuming its in very good condition, with a quality stock that is well bedded, I'd venture 600$ - 700$ to the right person.
 
With another guy - trying to reconstruct PH production - so was old school Safari, Safari Super, etc. - many seemed to be built on ex-military Mauser actions (with thumb cut out on left receiver wall) with stocks from SILE in Italy - that name stamped in barrel channel. Then Model 1000, 1100 and 1200 - maybe built on Spanish or other commercial Mauser actions (no thumb cut out on left receiver wall) - all three came in detachable magazine (clip) versions or hinged floor plate. In 1969, Canada provided shooters with hinged floor plate, internal magazine Parker Hale 1200TX rifles for the 1969 PALMA shoot at Connaught ranges near Ottawa - Canadian Forces used C3 (perhaps a modified 1200 TX) and C3A1 sniper rifles by Parker Hale - maybe they still use some of the C3A1? So, the make, model and year of your rifle kind of important - I doubt all PH were made to same quality - the 1000, 1100 and 1200 most definitely were not.

EDIT: "quality" - I guess that I meant the finish - we found a Parker Hale parts list - to order spares, back in the day - exact same parts / parts numbers used on each of 1000, 1100 and 1200, except for the stocks.

Priceless! If its a gift from your Dad, then its priceless. What I wouldn't have given for my Dad to buy me a rifle or a shotgun. Better still, to actually be interested enough to have custom one made for me. If you dont use it, buy a beater, or a plastic fantastic and put the PH in the gun safe for your kids or some other worthy young fella in the years to come.
 
Backcountryal beat me to it. I wouldn't be in a hurry to get rid of a custom built rifle that I got from my father. The PH Mauser rifles are good quality and the 338-06 is a great all around hunting cartridge for Canada. Why not be different from your friends that have various super duper magnums with plastic stocks and muzzle brakes?
 
Unfortunately I,m unable to load up some pictures of the gun at the moment being a new member.

But I appreciate everyone’s input and advice. Most likely I’ll keep the rifle as it was a gift. Just was more so curious with what comparable were. My father reloads all of our ammunition so that’s not a concern for me.

I hold no attachment to any rifle......unless my father gave it to me. It might not even seem significant now to you, but I GUARANTEE you will regret selling it. I just inherited several rifles and shotguns from my Father-in-law. Even though they are not guns or calibers I am that fond of, I will never sell them, and have already put them into serious rotation in my hunting guns.
