Howdy Folks,

Last time I popped into one of my local shops, I picked up a pound of RL-17 to try out with my .284. While there, I decided to grab a pound of RL-19 that was there as well assuming it must be good for something.

So to the experts out there, what calibres are RL-19 suited for? Any loads that really shine in particular? Help me figure out how best to burn this stuff!

Thanks CGN!

I use it with 150 Partitions in my 7x57. Also in my 338 Win Mag with 225 Accubonds. Max loads as per Nosler 7 Manual - check out real close to the book on my chronograph.

RL19 always seems to give good results, in accuracy and speed. I've used it recently in 22 Creedmoor, 6mm Creed, 6.5 PRC, 7mm Rem Mag, 300 Win Mag

I love RL 19. Have 30 lbs
Basically any where H4831 works, it will work (different charges of course)
It is my go to powder for 270 Win, 280 Rem, 284 Win, 30-06 and 338 Win Mag. Very versatile. I have used it in a 6.5-284 but settled on hybrid 100v for that cartridge. For hunting I only load TSX or Nosler partitions. For varmint loads I have had succes in 243 Win and 6mm

Have tried it in 270 WSM and 7mm Rem Mag but switched to R22 for those to get better velocity.

On the other end of the spectrum I have tried it in my 308 Win F class rifle but it is a tad too slow burning. RL 15 is better there. Variety is good here but sure see lot to lot variation with Varget. Very little variation with all RL powders so results are usually repeatable over the years. RL 15 is my favorite powder for 35whelen, 9.3x62, and 375 HH.

I know some of you are wondering if I am blowing smoke but, I have ruined my life by becoming a gun collector and competition shooter. Have been reloading for 45 years. I just went to my loading room and counted. I currently load for 43 different calibers from 204 Ruger to 458 Win Mag and have tried almost every powder.

RL 19 is kinda like Goldie Locks.... Not to hot, not too cold, but just right!

With a long drop tube you can get 68 grains of Rl19 into a 280 Remington case. About 5 grains more than with H4831ssc. It's less sensitive to temperature and out of a strong bolt action will produce over 3000fps with 140 grain bullets out of a 24 inch bbl without pressure signs.

NOTE, this load is way beyond any maximum in any of the reloading manuals but the manuals I have all defer to the weaker pump and semiauto Remington rifles the round was chambered in.

One of my best recipe
R19
Hornady 208 gr
Can push the ogive north of 2600 fps out of a 22 inch 308 barrel.
