What is the aprox value of this Marlin

A co-worker is trying to sell her fathers Marlin Lever action (44W)
The forestock has some damage and I havnt seen it and dont know the condition of the bore yet , any idea what it may be worth ?

That's a Marlin 1889 in pretty rough shape. In addition to the repair on the buttstock, it looks like the finish may have been redone and possibly a cold blue over the barrel/mag tube.

What's the barrel length? If it's the standard 24", then it's a pretty "common" rifle as far as 1889's go. If the bore is shootable, then I'd estimate it as a $275 - $300 rifle. If the bore is gone, then it's a parts rifle.

x2 on this assessment. If you are really wanting a .44 lever Marlin or otherwise I would hold off on that one.
On further examination of the photos the rifle is worth very little. Screws are buggered in the action as well, there are hammer marks around the lever pivot point usually an indication that someone has been at it who had no business messing around with a gun. Parts gun in my opinion.
