What is the best 1000 yard rifle?

I bought 600 once fired winchester brass and friends gave me another 300, to go with my own 200. 1100 brass, that should last me for the life of the barrel!! Maybe even for the life of the next 12F/TR.

Well its official 1000yd shooter first group 11" bottom 3. Top shot was first ever shot at 1000yd target. 28MOA drop. Didn't shoot anymore due to frostbite. -10. Shoot, pull ear plug, listen for ding on steel plate, celebrate woohoo.

Must load more cases.

Nicely done. It looks *COLD* in those pictures!!

Any difference in point of aim, or scope adjustment, between the top shot and the bottom three?

And, are you saying that the first shot you ever fired out of the rifle at 1000 yards, hit there, within about a foot of your point of aim? Wow, that's great!

Am curious what load you ended up using that day. My first reaction is, "make more of it!". Those three shots you fired have a very promising looking elevation spread. It'll be nice to see what sort of group height you get for 10 or 15 shots, when you are able to get around to it.

For what it's worth, your drop of 28MOA (from 100y zero? 300y?) sounds a bit low, that's more what you would expect at about 900 yards for temp=-10C, mv=2900fps, alt=sea level. (though it's a lot closer if you are more than 5000 feet above sea level...?).

The difference between the first shot (45.7) and the next 3 (45.9) was .2 grns of Varget.
Temp was -10 with a 8km westerly wind. The elevation is 2264. The last 3 loads were kind of hot, little pressure sign. I will drop it back down to 45.7 like the first shot and work with that one. The 100 yd setting was line 5 showing and 0 on the turret setting.
The 1000 yd setting was line 7 showing and 8 on the turret setting.
Scope is a Night Force 5.5 - 22 X 56 NXS. So that is 28MOA, 100 to 1000 - 23.3 foot bullet drop. Wow

It is interesting/surprsing that the slightly milder load hit the target higher (ordinarily you would expect the opposite - slower bullet takes longer to get there, has more time to fall, strikes lower).

Sounds like you really did move 28MOA from 100y (and NF scopes really ought to deliver pretty close to advertised movements). How did you measure the distance to the target? (if your scope's movements are correct, then your bullet drop suggests like it might have placed the target at about 900 yards - not that it particularly matters, that is good shooting).

Tigrres shooting today -12 C shot a .406 dia 3 shot hole at 100yds. BTM left.

I may never get that 12F/TR out of her hands!!
Best 3 shot group today at 100 .204" You could almost wipe the concentration off my forehead.

I think I know why the 45.7 and 45.9 varget load point of impact where so screwy on the 1000 yd target. First off I have since noticed my electronic scale is creeping a bit. Second it was a new bottle of Varget for the 45.9 loads.
resulting in me buying a new scale and larger 8lb tubs of Varget..

tigrr....You are a true gunNUT...lol. And now you're getting the better half involved. Well... you kind of have a good thing going now. You can stay nice and warm inside reloading and the wifey can go out in the cold and test for you. Lucky guy.
