Hey all, who makes a good 45-70 rifle with good sights. A guy had a nice looking lever action one at the range but I forget who makes it- it was Italian I think.
I tried the search but it kept telling me no, so hope its not been covered to death!
thanks

A Browning 1885 single shot. Nice nimble tack driver. If you add a scope it will do what you want where you want it.

Seriously it is a very nice rifle and solidly built.

For single shots, I like the C.Sharps '74, for strength(heavier loads) the Ruger #1, for a repeater; an older Marlin Cowboy '95, or Win. '86.

For long range black powder my CSharps model 1875 can't be beat. I love to shoot this beauty.

For hunting I would carry my Marlin 1895 Stainless Guide Gun. It will knock down anything I can find to shoot at.

All depends on what you want to use it for and then how much you want to spend in it. Primarily for hunting and using hotter end jacketed loads, I went with a Marlin 1895GS.

And more as basically a cast bullet shooter and for some informal long range playing, I have a Pedersoli Sharps presently at my disposal for an unlimited amount of time. Still hoping to talk the owner into selling it to me.

45-70

Original post. What is the best 45-70 rifle?I say the one you leave at home.

Look what happened to Custer when he didn't bring his Gatling guns to Little Big Horn. Not sure if they were in 45-70 at the time? It will be around a lot longer than you or i will...........Harold

I would never part with my Ruger #3.... I really like my Uberti Highwall... And I am dying to get a Winchester or Browning 1885.... The Sharps offered by C. Sharps and Shiloh are amazing rifles as well as the Browning BPCR clone of the highwall...

Crap, I need to win a lottery....This is hopeless!!

The Sharps clones can use smokeless, including factory loads, but the most fun and prolly best accuracy is by loading with real Black Powder.
