what is the best all round big game hunting rifle?

Gonna depend if Grizzlies are something you would hunt? I would want something a little bigger than the 30-06 if Im 30m from a Grizz!

I have been reading a lot about the .375 H&H, and it has got me interested in a .375 Ruger Alaskan.

It's not what you hit them with, it's where you hit them.

Having said that, absent messing with the big bears, a .303 is all you'd ever really need for big game anywhere in N.A.

As unexciting as it is, I'm going to have to agree with Vega.
And even if you decided big bears were in your future, the .303/.308/.30-'06 will do the job if you do yours.

Whats the best Car to drive down to the shops?

As above... Guna be a short thread LOL

Get a magnum cal if you have a 303br already... My vote is 35whelen

x2 ..... the rifle you own will already do the job on all the big game already...but if you wanted to upgrade you cant go wrong with a.308 or 30.06......I own 3 rifles in 30.06 and a polytech m-305 in .308

And if you are hunting where you dont have long shots or you walk alot a lever in 45-70 would be a good choice as well

Why not the Remington .350 magnum. I have the 673 (discontinued), but these are still available in the Model 7 CDL and there is a place in Orillia that has a bunch of them for $949. They can be loaded down for deer and up to anything in North America. The Remington Model 7 is such a nice gun too. Hard to find a better light handy brush gun...

Didn't know the Whelan was a magnum.

Use anything from 25-06 up to 300 wm. for an All Around cartridge. Personally i would stay away from the magnums, all they do is burn more powder and slam your shoulder harder then a non-magnum. 30-06 is probably the best all around cartridge. Cheap, available, lots of weight choices etc.

.375 with a 20" tube like the .375 Ruger Alaskan will do everything in the world, pack handily enough, shoot flat enough, hit hard enough. Too bad it comes with such a horrible stock!

speed buys distance. i chose 7mm rem mag because number seven is lucky. i need all the luck i can get. if i want to chase the big bears, my 375 H&H will do fine.
