what is the best case for a 6.5

What kind of barrel life are you expecting because that would make selection a little easier for you. Even at 600 yards the 6.5 Grendel & 264 LBC will do the trick on deer and steel with half the powder of the 6.5 Creedmore, 260 Remington and 6.5 x 55 Swedish. The larger rounds IMHO are not worth it useless shooting 1000yds and beyond becomes a factor.

If he has a 270 I would cross out the 6.5-06, I had both they offered the same performance, the 270 was easier to reload for. 6.5x55 on a long action and 260 rem if you want a short action.
6.5x55 is my only remaining 6.5 bore at this time.

I'd like to keep a good long barrel life. It would be mostly for informal field shooting but enough punch for antelope and white tail if he likes it better then his 270. Thanks for all the replys. Looks like 260 and the swede are top picks

I built a 6.5x55AI on a CZ550 long action. 49.5 grains of H4831SC behind 130 grain Accubond gives me 3170 FPS from my 26" barrell. Great accuracy and low recoil. This is 270 Win territory with less powder and recoil. I love this cartridge. I use Laupa brass which has proved to be very consistent and durable. I break 3000 FPS with 140 grain SST but haven't dialed in a load that is as accurate as the 130's. Going to try 140 grain Berger VLD hunters next. Very high BC.
If you have some time to build one, do this one.
