If you are cheap or strapped for cash, stick with your Norc irons, assuming they work until you can buy a decent mount. (although USGI Garand sights are not cheap, they are a good investment for that...USGI M14 sights are too expensive to most users and you might as well get a good mount)
A cheap, usable mount in my opinion is a solid (steel) scout-type mount.
For receiver mounts, everyone here will agree that ARMS or SMITH are THE way to go.
There have been users of the (Leapers?) ARMS copy which costs similar to a scout mount. Apparently they work very well. The only thing missing is the piece that slots into the stripper clip guide dovetail.
