Hey guys! I have been trying to find out where I can hunt Yotes in southern Ontario but have come up with nothing more then the simple answer "on a farmers property". Just wondering if anyone has some public areas they care to share or a site that I can go to that has listings of property owners that allow people to hunt their land?

No one is going to whore out their favorite public spot in southern ontario....Start knocking on farmers doors...I hunt just outside trenton, 5 minutes from my front door...2000 acres spread across 4 farms...I only asked for permission for 1 farm...word of mouth spread, and all the other farmers on the road called me...I'd say 90% of farmers will let you on their land to hunt yotes.

When I lived in downtown Toronto, I had the same issue and did the same home work you're doing now. Being from up north originally, it seemed impossible that with all the coyote problems people have in Southern Ontario that there are virtually no public places to hunt them and no central resource to find out who allows hunters on their land. It's one giant paradox.

Having said all that, it's true. You should introduce yourself to a few local farmers and request their permission to hunt their land.

Downside:
- You'll have to invest time knocking on a door or two. You'll probably need to spend a Saturday afternoon so long as you present well.
- They may say no.

Upside:
- You can build a good relationship with a landowner that can lead to hunting opportunities for deer and other game either on his land or that of his neighbors and family if you manage the relationship well. IMHO, all this means is doing what you said you'd do when you said you'd do it.
- If they grant you permission to hunt coyotes on their land, it will probably be because no one else is and you'll have exclusivity on the property. No need to worry about other people spoiling your hunt. I'm not referring to simply other hunters, but hikers, skiiers, etc.
- You don't have to pay (at Ganaraska, you do). Having said that, it feels good to drop off a bottle of wine at your landowner's place as a token of appreciation. Much better than dropping $10 in an envelope into a locked box.

I have found one of the best ways to turn coyote permission into deer permission is to bring them some venison pepperettes, sausage or salami from your deer...... then offer them somoe of any deer you take on their land..... that's how I got my muzzleloader spot....

Thanks a lot guys! I think Prescott might be a bit far for me as I live in Milton ON. I think I will do as a lot of you have said and head over to WMU 80 and try out my luck with some of the farmers in that area. I will bring the big diesel truck so that there is no confusion about what type of family I was raised in :)

There are areas to hunt deer up near you but its stictly deer and deer only. No small game/bird, etc. I would say start knocking on some doors my friends its your best choice. You live in Milton there are plently of areas to knock. :)

ps a cash cropper could usually care less about a yote or two they are less likely to welcome you with open arms. look for dairy, beef, sheep(especially) or hobby farms as they take a hit to their bottom line by yote kills. leave a card with a phone number as many people will deny permission only to rethink it after a kill or two. as previouisly stated work on a good relationship with whoever lets you on their land, maybe offer a days labour. if one guy gives you the a ok others will maybe even call you. I hunt most of the block around my farm and some were reluctant to give permission. as I hunted more and more land the others sort of folded so to speak(and I knew all of them already some are just indifferent to guns:()
