What is the best mid-priced "Go To" Rifle?

My first choice will remain the Remington 700, with the caveat that I would need to handle it and look it over carefully first.
The Weatherby Vanguard S2 is very good value for the dollar spent.
The new Winchesters look good....time will tell.
Tikka T3s, likely accurate, but do not interest me much.
The X-Bolts are well received by many, seem to be accurate, but I regard them much like the Tikka T3.
Rugers are good, solid rifles.
Eagleye.

I have shot and fondled each rifle. The Remington, Brownings, Weatherby vanguard, it's all the same rifle. Shoots decently accurate, never has a detach mag in stainless, usually cost more than they're worth. Theyre good rifles don't get me wrong, but none are as good as the Tikka. The Savage will shoot just as accurate, if not more, will cost less and come in stainless with a fantastic detach magazine and you will pay less. In the end it's always a matter of Tikka or Savage for me, and Savage always seems to win because their detach mag system is better.

The Ruger M77

I've put my mits on pretty much every commercial action avaliable today. I don't think I've ever encountered one that cycled smoother/better than my M77 Mk II. Sakos are comparable, but Coopers, Weatherbys and other big name brands I've been unimpressed with. The Ruger isn't perfect, it's a heavy platform and if you like DM you may want to look at a Sako. I however have no use for a DM on a hunting rifle and I love my Ruger. I have other rifles, but the Ruger is my standby, it's solid as hell (certainly more so than the plastic everything Tikka) reliable, accurate and cycles oh-so-smooth. I would seriously consider one, although I've found the new Hawkeyes don't cycle as smooth as my Mk II.

X2 for savage as I have this rifle in 22-250 and just love it.It's a tack driver and has a silky smooth bolt,,,don't overlook the accutrigger.

if you travel to cgy the ctire on mcleod south has some vanguard backcountry's in 30-06 for $8XX if my memory serves, very nice, carbon fibre stock, fluted stainless barrel and bolt and very light, recoils not bad, I would buy one if I wanted a 30-06

Tikka in .270!!

The 30-06 is simply not necessary for your intended game, and it kicks like a mule in the T3 Lite.

Buying the .270 gives you an excuse to buy that dangerous game rifle down the road! ;)

Savages Alaskan Brush Hunter in .338 Win Mag possibly! ;)

I just recently purchased a Tikka T3lite in 30:06. Its what fit my budget and so far has been a pleasure to shoot. Had I had a bigger budget my first pick would have been the model 70. For me nothing shoulders as nice as a model 70. My second choice is not on your list and would be a Sako. Love that silky smooth Sako action.

Out of what he listed the XCR II is miles ahead of the rest. I couldn't think of a better out of the box work gun than a synthetic stocked, stainless AND coated model 700...

back to the Op why not looking for second-hand or used rifles you can some good ones for good price and then buy with the extra money saved a good optic ...

some mentionned the Zastava and they re good choice too.

just my 2 cents.

When it comes to overall workmanship and materials, Tikka's T3 is the "Toyota Camry" of hunting rifles.
Personally, I prefer Remington 700 but Tikka T3 are simply better made rifles.
