What is the best or most popular .223 platform in F T/R?

Bolt action either single shot or repeater made to single feed - factory or custom really doesn't matter. I run a Savage or Stevens.

7 twist match barrel 28" Most will run a long throated 223 Rem chamber for 80 to 90gr bullets

Stock that fits you - the least expensive is something like the Choate Tactical all the way to tube guns and tactical chassis

Skipod like the MPOD, Remple and others. Choice might be dependent on the weight of the items you choose

Scope of high mag usually with 32X and up being most common. I prefer the Sightron SIII 10-50X60 scopes.

Rails and rings to suit. I like Farrell and Burris sig zee rings.

Quality rear bag like a protektor or edgewood.

There is no 1 best answer in F class. If you think it up, it has either been or is being used or will be used shortly....
Where are you?

I built off of a Rem 700 for my .223
I used a Gaillard 1:7 twist barrel throated to shoot the 90 gr. VLD's. I used a HS Precision stock and added an adjustable cheek piece to it. The stock has also been professionally bedded. So far, I have found a great load for the 75 gr A-max (Less money). My intentions were to shoot FTR but since the competitions are set in Southern Alberta/BC, I won't be competing this year. Hopefully, when I have more time/money to travel more frequently with my family, I'll be competing.
That being said, I've also built a .260 off of a Savage action and it shoots very well. I used a Shilen barrel and topped it off with Sightron optics. My choice of stock was a Choate tactical custom.

There are many possibilities and great people to help you out.

I am curious if the after market BR actions were being used to any advantage with the smaller cases. Also if the tube/action floated actions were shining above more conventional stocks and bedding.

I am looking to build a LR Gong basher for my "backyard" wind tunnel... er... range. Need much more practice before I would compete.

Oh and Jerry.... I am south of you and that Mrs. La Rooo's (sp) kid's place.

Take a bit of reading and you will discover that there is no consensus on gear. It all works, or not. If you are gong shooting, get a Savage or Tikka HB. Load up 69 to 75gr whatevers and fly at it.

Likely it will outshoot you for a long time.

Bedding, good load tech, good bipod and rests, good optics. From there it is load tuning, and wind doping.

Of the very accurate 223's I shoot alongside regularly there is a Remington, a Defiance, a Barnard, and a Savage. IIRC all the barrels are True flite, but there maybe a Kreiger in there. All have 1:7 twists as Jerry indicated.

My competitive days are likely over, but I still enjoy a good shooter. Cost is seldom considered. I have missed shots with some of the finest equipment around. I'm just looking to build a top flight. 223 for my own pleasure.

I note, unlike the NBR stateside, F class does not publish equipment lists of competitors. It makes it easier to follow the trends in equipment as well as components.

Then build with the components you want/like to own. They all work so build the dream rifle that will give your pride of ownership you want.

The set up and tuning is pretty much the same regardless.

Proper loading tools and tech will be needed and I can help there when you are ready

Let me know when you want to start ordering up parts cause most will take a good long time.
