What is the best original Mauser, variant or copy?

1935
1908
Swede

The first two have fit and finish to put commercial rifles to shame. Shoot well, too.

Technically, the Swede is not all that good, but I have had a lot of them and all shot better than I thought I could shoot open sights. I have used the 6.5 x 55 for both hunting and for F Class competition. An impressive caliber.

The Best Made Mauser List

I will have to update my list of Best Made Mausers

Persion
1908 Brazilian
1935 Brazilian
1941 Portuguese
1909 Peruvian
1912 Steyr
FN K98 Israel

Model 95's:
M1896 Sewde
M1938 Swede

Previous list was:
The best original Mausers I think are:
1908 Brazilian
1935 Brazilian
1912 Steyr with Tiger Stripe Stock
1909 Peruvian with Tiger Stripe Stock
FN K98's for Israel

I suppose I am really going to go against the grain here.

I have an FN contract Mauser built for Greece in the 1930s that I really like.

Beleive it or not, I actually like Turkish Mausers. The 1893, the 1903 and all those 1930 conversion of everything under the sun.

Now I am kicking myself for not buying a couple of pallets of them when Districorp was selling them for $40 each!!!

Not mine, though I wish it was.

ʹve got a couple Swedes and a couple Enfields that are great, but I saw a 1908 Brazilian 7x57 that was wonderful too once.

An aquaintance had a sporter built on a 1909 Argentine that was slick too!

I am surprised no one has mentioned (unless I missed something) the Pre/64 mod. 70 Win. and the various Husqvarna 98 actions. All are variants on the original 98 action, as in the original post.

don't know of this counts but a arisaka type 38 would be my vote. uses a cartridge similar to a swed and there are so many fun variations. no too much in the way of kick either and I hear they are good for deer.

Best Original Mausers

OK Steppenwolf now that Persion ranks up there in the top two, that's beautiful. How long have you had that beauty, and how did you happen to have it in your collection?

X 2 for Persians!

Can Am, I have been saving for a while for a long and a short Persian collectables. Apparently, very few in Canada. Just wondering, being a dealer and an owner of one, are you aware of a place in Canada that Persian mausers could be purchased/ordered for value? Or just go with Samco and Gun Broker...
