Having owned two 1187's and one 1100 I would NOT, NEVER AGAIN buy a gun that depends on a french safe for its operation? This is my own experience and if you want I will go on and on why not to buy one? No disrespect to people that own them?

Save your self the grief and stay away from Remington semis. I've owned them in the 1100 and 11-87 and they are simply an outdated design that loading and ejection issues have caused me to move away from them.

It's been discussed here numerous times and if your looking at spending that kind of money do yourself a favor and go with a Benelli ( recoil operated low maintenance ) or a Beretta .

Other nice guns out there but my experience with both of the " B " guns has been nothing but positive.

Another vote for Beretta or Benelli. If you want 3-1/2" the Benelli Super Black Eagle II or the Beretta 391 Xtrema. The Benelli however will be slightly over the $1,500 limit. The Beretta will be under unless you add the Kick-Off feature.

If you can live with 3" shells then the Beretta 391 Urika or the Benelli M2. I shoot a 391 Urika for waterfowl and clay targets but if I were after a gun just for waterfowl I'd buy the M2.

It doesn't matter what the "best" gun is. Your goal is to kill ducks and geese effectively. Half of that (more or less) is dependant upon your shotshell and choke combination - the load has to be deadly. The other half is your wingshooting ability; you've got to be able to put that deadly load on target. The "best" gun in the world is just a noisemaker if you can't hit with it. Which gun it comes out of is of much less importance. A Mossberg 930 can be just effective a waterfowl gun as any Beretta/Benelli/Browning you care to pick.

What are you other gun requirements you'd like to have? Name, finish, fit, action type, camo, recoil, weight, balance, porting, durability, reliability, trigger, safety location, etc. Do you clean your guns regularly or not? Do you baby your guns or are they hammers? Lots of answers needed before somebody else can pick a gun for you.

With that budget? I'd go B gun as well (SBE2, Extrema2, M2, 391, etc.).

I bought a Winchester SX3 (new for ~$900, 3 1/2", 26" synth.) and I have killed a lot of waterfowl/clays with it, so I'm happy. It is another option to be sure.

I would recommend the Browning Gold. Lower price point than a Benelli but will still soak up the 3.5" shells with aplomb. Mine is light enough to carry in the field for upland, should I choose to, but still swings and carrys well.

Condom gun !

Been there done that - glad I didnt get the t-shirt
BUT ! as soon as I replaced and got a spare o-ring - It has never failed me since !:confused::confused::confused:

The neatest semi auto shotgun that I have seen, shot and own, is the Browning A5. I use mine for IPSC shooting and it is fast to load and even faster to shoot, very reliable. Too bad they don't make them anymore. You can find them from time to time in the EE for a good price. Pass on the light A5.
