what is the best value 9mm pistol out there?

I've been told that the safety version has, or can be tuned to have, the better trigger. Don't know first hand. I kind of like the decocker tactical version, too. Good time to buy, particularly used, as everyone is unloading in time for the 2. Sights are definitely replaceable. Check out czcustum.com in the US for all the different sight options, among others. Several other places in Canada, like Dlask, carry the parts as well.

would be interesting to have the 'tuned for better trigger' statement verified or debunked.

also, what is the difference between the base SP-01 and the SP-01 Shadow? just the sights and that the Shadow comes with the decocker?

Lots of info on the differences with a quick search. Basically Shadow has different sights, safety and no firing pin block. It is the SP01 Tactical model that comes with the decocker, not the Shadow.

What is with the Shadow that is the big draw over say a 85C? Is the grip different?

M

Grip is the same, I think the draw to the Shadow is trigger is a bit better out of box (I believe), fiber optic front site, adjustable rear sight, weaver rail, and the increased muzzle weight make for a lighter recoiling handgun that is easy to get back on target for quick follow shots.

And some people just like the look of em better... I kinda prefer the classic lines myself. But the SP01 is a ###y gun!!

yeah, I understand that Norinco does offer good value, but I'm tired of buying cheap and dealing with mediocrity.

does anyone know if we can get the CZ P-09 or SP-01 variants that allow for a reflex sight to be installed?

To the OP the 75B is easily the best value. Will shoot with the best CZ has to offer yet cost a grand less. Change the main spring, buy a good quality Kydex or leather holster, a single/double mag holder and you have an outfit that will last you a life time of plinking, self insurance, and if you decide to play one of the action shooting sports you are good to go. Parts will always be available should something eventually break and re-sale is excellent if you ever need to sell it. Jeff Cooper didn't call it the best of the nines for nothing. CZ quality flows into all their products. I could not detect any difference in the quality of the build of a 75B compared to my 75 Shadowline, SP-01 Shadow or my New Edition. Finish is nicer on the higher end product but the build was the same.

The frame of the Shadow is different as is the grip. The under cut of the trigger guard is deeper as is the grip area under the upswell beavertail. With lighter springs, competition sights and a decent trigger job, the 85C is as good a shooter as the Shadow IMHO. The frame changes and longer dustcover features the Shadows have do not always translate to significant differences in scoring/shooting from what I have seen. The biggest advantage the basic stock Shadow comes pretty much complete with nothing significant if anything to change. I prefer the 85 Combat I have. The late Ken Soucie did a trigger job on it that is just unreal.

Am curious. Where did you see an FNS 9L for under $500?

If you are talking about actual value for the money spent, honestly you can't beat the FN FNS9l, for under $500 it's a great value, great ergonomics, fantastic grip, 3 steel mags, 2 back straps and it all comes in a quality case. It can be stripped down in seconds, has a cold hammer forged barrel, and comes from the factory with polished feed ramp, accurate as hell and a good trigger that gets better as you shoot it. Possibly the most underrated and unknown 9mm out there at this time, and worth looking at if value is what you are after, watch Hickok45's review of it on YouTube , it's also doing quite well on the competition circuit in the USA .

Canik TP9SA for the win. $550 gets you into the party with a pistol, 2 mags, holster, mag pouch, mag loader and interchangeable back-straps. It features the best stock, striker-fired action on the market, with the shortest slide-pull for reset. Excellent ergos, with typically outstanding Turkish CnC machining. All yours for less than $600 all in....

I take back my suggestion about the m70a because it seems that the current supply in Canada has just dried up. I wanted to purchase another one and no dealers seem to have any in stock. Glad I got my Tokerav in 9mm when I had the chance.

With the upcoming CZ 75 Shadow 2, I'm sure it will have alot of SP01 Shadow for sale on the EE in the future months.

Offer will be greater than demand so I'm sure prices will be good.

I am new to guns...What about the Girsan Yavuz 16? it looks and it is made like a Beretta 92FS for a much lower price. I would appreciate some feedback as I am planning to purchase one.

I think you got some incorrect info.
Both the FNS9 and FNS9L are available in Canada. The FNS9 barrel might be longer than the US version, but the slide is shorter than the 9L.
I think even Milarms website shows both the FNS40 and FNS40L in stock.

I believe all FNS9's in Canada are long slides due to barrel length restrictions, at least that's what I was told when I bought mine from MilArm

I shot one belonging to the guy in the booth next to me at the range last week.
Seemed to be well made and nicely finished. Shot nicely, trigger was pretty good, was quite accurate. Priced very well. I think worth the money if you're looking for an inexpensive gun.
I still prefer my FNS 9L and Glock 17 though.

Another vote for the Girsan Yavuz Compact, if there is such a thing, it's a better Beretta 92. The grip is much better than the 92, with all the other bits pure 92 at a very affordable price.
