Hello there,

I have just tryed pistol shooting. And I really liked it. I would like to buy some kind of semi-auto, I just don't know what to buy. I want something that is going to be relable, and last me for a good while. I am not to afraid to spend the money to get something good. I will need a gun that will fit my hands. (rather large) It also has to look nice. I have pretty much settled on a .40 cal.

Any suggestions would be great.

Hmmm... large grip, reliable, .40 caliber, top quality, and looks great:

HK USP Expert .40S&W ($1775)

I think Glock pistols are the best, but I'm not so stuck up not to recommend some other good .40 cal guns out there. See if you can try an Springfield XD, and HK are nice and would fit your hand well. Rugers are well built and economical. Sigs are top of the line but pricey. Try to get to a good gunshop and hold as many as you can or get to a range and shoot some of your favorites, they all have their good/bad qualities. Try to get something you like and find comfortable and will like to shoot for the longrun.

I started with a Ruger and then switched to Glocks. Haven't looked back since. There's alot of good pistols out there for every budget though.

I would say:
H & K, Glock, Springfield XD, a 1911 variation (not single stack)
CZ's are nice, not sure about grip size

I'm not a Ruger pistol fan or not so much on the Berrata's either.

you should do your best to get your hands on these before making a decision.
most guys will let you try a few rounds of there's. go to your local club on the busy nights & ask to try them.

If you really want a big grip, get a Dessert Eagle (.357 - .50 cal) :)

The CZ 97 has a large grip. It is also a great value for the money. If it were me, and money was not really big issue, I would stay away from most of the Ruger centre-fire pistols. They are reliable enough, but they are not very nice looking or feeling guns. I always think of Frankenstein when I handle one.

It is a question will never have a good answer. most of the brand name guns are very reliable and that is why they have fans. Buy something you like the most if you can afford. how people think the look of the gun is not important, the most important is you like the look of the gun.

Totally agree ( get an original not a copy) and TRY BEFORE YOU buy if you can. At least handle the pistol as much as possible. As far as caliber I see no reason to run .40, 9mm is great and is cheaper.

GO TEAM GLOCK!
