What is the disadvantage of being placed in ESP Div. when using a CZ Shadow?

I did a very quick read through the rule book, seached the topic on using the Shadow in IDPA.

But I keep reading about all the changes needed to be placed in SSP Div. Why??? Why not just keep it as is and be placed in ESP instead?

What am I missing or not understanding? It can't be the scoring because no div competes against the other....

I'd like to try IDPA someday this year but I'm not going/willing to change my current setup that I use for IPSC.

CZ Shadow
11# Recoil Spring
13# Main Spring
Competition Hammer
CZ Thin Aluminum Checker Grips
A bit of Grip Tape
2 x Factory CZ Mags
4 x Tanfoglio Mags

Weight w/ Tanfoglio mags = 41.27oz
Weight w/ Factory CZ mags = 40.60oz

So this would place me in ESP, correct or is my Shadow not allowed in ESP div?

Thanks for the helping me understand.

The Shadow has a full length dust cover made of steel which takes it out of ESP.

SSP allows full length dust covers but the weight limit is 39 oz.

The rules allow for any gun that complies with the requirements for SSP to compete in ESP (or CDP if chambered in .45 ACP).

So, if you can get a Shadow down to 39 oz without violating any of the other restrictions for SSP, you can use it in ESP.

Hope this helps.

Full length dust covers are not allowed in any division except SSP.

To shoot your Shadow in ESP it must make weight for SSP first. This means it has to weigh 39 Oz. (Note that the 39 Oz rule is open to a bit of interpretation. At a match I shot in Idaho the gun had to weigh 39.0 Oz. I shot that one without the mag break).

My gun is 38.97 ounces with Marschal grips, the mag break out and my lightest magazine inserted. My buddy's Shadow is 39.0 with Marschal grips, lightest mag, and a shaved-down mag break. Some pretty generous tolerances in that Czech manufacturing (is not gun, is tractor!).

Bottom line: Marschal grips are mandatory for IDPA.

Ah... I see.

I read that but when I read:
"EXCLUDED Modifications (NON-Inclusive list):
1. Full length dust covers of carbon or stainless steel.
2. Oversize diameter magazine release buttons.
3. Trigger shoes.
4. Slide lightening (see “slide, lightening” in glossary for
further information)."

I took the word "modifications" as a DIY thing... 2, 3 and 4 but #1 didn't register as full length dust cover is a factory made thing....

Oh well....

Thanks for the clarification.
