What Is The Epidemy Of Cheap Bulk Ammo?

I just bought a Federal BYOB (Bring Your own Bucket). About 1300 rounds.

Terrible stuff in 4 pistols and one rifle.

Utter crap.

Bought a tub too now by utter crap do you mean accuracy of reliability? I find it marginally accurate but utterly reliable way better than the federal blue box I used to buy in the early 2000s that was both inaccurate and only 80% reliable but it taught a teenager about squibs. Canadian tire seems to think it goes bad because at the end of deer season you can sometimes get it for $60 +tax. Not too shabby for 25yard fun.

If you pay 4 or 5c then toss 2/3 you might as well buy something triple the price that you know will work. I’ll never buy Winchester or federal again.
Did Remington thunderbolt on glock 44; one stovepipe in 4 mags. An anecdote.

Huge groups. And it seems to be standard velocity. Would not run some of my semis.

Fed BP Sale at Cabelas

I bought some of the Fed BlackPak 2 years ago during Black Friday sale. It was most reliable in my Sav-64 and Marlin-60, and I'm about out (I have many other brands to play with). I just checked and Cabelas has it on sale for $49.97 which is 5.23c after tax. ($20 off sale). Time to stock up ?? I'm under 10K in .22 right now . . . and SK+ is about 11c. Not a lot of diff in accuracy except in my B22, the semis shoot around 1" with most ammo.
And of all the dozen or so diff ammo I have, there has been NONE that I 'toss 2/3'. The Fed A-M does seem to have about 3-5% FTF and that p**** me at 8c/rnd.

Being a cheap bastard, I tried all the cheap ammo hoping for decent accuracy and reliability in all my .22s, rifles and pistols. I finally decided to forget all the crap ammo and just pay the price for good ammo. I now buy various CCI SV and HV types for plinking and Eley and SK for more serious stuff. To me, even at double or triple the price, it's worth the lack of aggravation. But heh, do whatever floats your boat.

Black pack is decent. Wildcat used to be my go-to for my old Lakefield 30 years ago, but the new stuff is trash.
I've had really good luck with CCI Blazer.

I found that the Herter's bulk 22 ammo works well

Federal BYOB and Black Pack = so so

Golden Bullets = crap

I recently sold off a bunch of bulk 22 ammo, decided I want to move away from plinking, still got a 22 handgun for that purpose though.

I spent so much time/ammo trying to find what works in my ruger precision rimfire and still can't get the results I want. Bought an Annie and only have used SK trainer ammo so far in it, can do less than 1/2" groups at 50M consistently, makes all other 22 rifles look like garbage, $62 plus tax for 500 rounds = 14 cents a round = I am happy

Time = Money

The cheapest isn't always the best buy:
A couple of years ago there was a sale on the 1600 round Federal Black Box and a mail-in rebate. After the rebate the cost was something ridiculous like 2.6c per round. I'm sure it was less than the cost to make the ammo. It cycled in everything I tried, but it was the least accuate .22 ammo I can remember using. I gave most of it away.
I think the best cheap bulk .22 that is reliable and accurate is American Eagle (made by Federal). My friend and I ordered 3x 5000 rnd cases of it a couple of years ago during a boxing day sale (3.5c per round).

I have buckets of remington golden bullets tagged at 69.99$

They shoot a bit dirty compared to cleaner brands like CCI but they all go bang with decent accuracy out of every rifles we tried them in even 2 rimfire pistols. Never had feeding issues in 2 semi auto (64f and 10/22) and out of my Mk2 FV, I can get hit clays 100% out to 150m. Perfect to teach the kids.

It is dirty though but great bulk/plinking ammo when it wasn’t priced at the price it is today.
