I'm trying to determine what the largest pistol that is prohibited under 12(6) due to barrel length. It must have been available in Canada when 12(6) came into effect, so something like the 4" model of the S&W500 wouldn't qualify.

I'm defining "largest" in terms terms of weight, size, overall length, etc., basically what gun will make my soon to arrive H&K P7m8 look the smallest in comparison.

Any thoughts?
Chris

P.S. Thanks to stormbringer for inspiring this question...

The S&W auto with 4" barrels come to mind. Sitting next to a restricted commander, it's hard to see any difference in size including barrel length.
My 3906 is all steel and weighs at least as much as a commander.

As far as 'normal' ones, not like the Mauser etc, it would deffinately be a 4" .44 Mag (remember, chamber's not counted on a revolver towards the length), second a 4" .357. Also due to the high bore axis, they are very tall, and a .44 Mag is very bulky in general. PS, I've always wanted to do a photo op and compare my P7M8 and restricted PPK to one, then ask what the logic of prohibiting the revolvers is. Be careful it doesn't come accross as a knock on the autos though.

Okay.....He wins

I have a Model 16 S&W with an 8 & 3/8 " barrel. It's a heavy sucker, but prohibited because it's in that evil .32 cal.

This is funny even as a novelty piece, I'll buy it from you:) How much....LMAO

If you are going to include 12(6) because of calibre (we were not to) then why not the Contender with a 10" barrel.

Idiots banned all .25 and .32 pistols with the arguement that is what saturday night specials are chambered in and are easily concelable. If they allready have a barrel lenght ban, then what sense does the .25/.32 cal is more concealable make?
They also effectively banned all Olympic competition pistols with this and got called on it, eventually renaging on some specialty pistols in these calibers.
