I've been watching Miami Vice for the first time this lockdown and I've developed an interest in the 10mm Auto cartridge and I want to try shooting it. Googl'ing show that it's not a very popular cartridge her in Canada and I can't find many pistols chambered in it. I've found that the least expensive pistol in 10mm seems to be the Glock 20, sitting at around $850 new. Are there any that are cheaper?

"least expensive" and 10mm is an oxymoron lol. You may save a some money on the purchase of the firearm, but unless you are reloading, your ammo costs are going to quickly become very expensive. For me, I prefer to shoot 10mm out of my S&W 610 revolvers because I hate chasing brass.

Plus 1 for the Glock 20, definitely the cheapest way into the 10mm game. Keep your eye on the EE. Lots of people get the 10mm bug, buy a Glock and then realize its not for them then unload the pistol to recoup their investment.

Agree glock is on the lower side of price. I hear there can be case bulging issues. I believe armscor is a decent gun for the money and is steel. Springfield xdm and eaa make poly versions. The ruger 10 is a nice option. I have an original colt DE that will be pried from my cold dead hands, likely by my son who covets it. Next will be a springfield operator.

New-in-the-box 10mm auto pistols that begin at reasonable prices is the Glock 20. Hell, Glock even makes a compact version in 10mm aka the G29. Unavailble here.
John Browning's genius in the 1911 pistol was for 45acp. While this auto was adapted by *others* in 9mm, even 30Luger, 10mm was never contemplated until much much later. Does 10mm work in the 1911 platform? Yes, kinda.
I think the limitations for 10mm in the 1911 platform is much higher velocity 10mm's, like 1400+ fps. It's kinda like the problems S&W encountered with "K" frame revolvers firing steady diets of .357 mag factory ammo.
IMHO, If I want that kind of hot performance, I'd move to the Glock 31 in .357 Sig.

While I've been a 1911 fan forever & currently have an older Colt Delta Elite model, I would have to say my favorite 10mm pistol was a vintage S&W 1066 I had back in the day. The weight of that big stainless steel S&W auto pistol seemed to work great managing the recoil of full house 10mm loads.

NAA.

The first thing to check is to see if there's any dealer that has 10mm cartridges in stock. Canada is not the southern US piled with hillbillies that eager to hunt down wild boars with their 10mm hand canons.

After market glock barrels of different lengths and configurations such as threaded or ported barrels are easy and cheap to obtain if you want to load to the max power and not worry about bulged cases from the Glocks chamber.

I found a used Glock 21 in .45 for a Smoking deal ($650) from a site sponsor. Best thing about it was not only did it come with a healthy supply of both 45 and 10 mil magazines it came with a very well done after market 10mm conversion barrel. I have bigger hands so the size of the unit was not an issue but being a Glock I wasn't overly enamored with it, however it fit the role of being very utilitarian and lightweight. But!! Then I picked up an MCK (Micro Roni) for it... All of a sudden it became one of the coolest toys in the safe! That MCK put a whole new spin on the 10 mm for me. My glock now lives full-time in that accessory because of it. Highly recommended.. however 10 mm cartridges are expensive, cannot be found in bulk and are not always easy to find. But I have to say the 10 mm is so much better than a nine it's not even slightly comparable. Not sure why nines even still exist behind a 10.

On another note.. my 10 mm conversion barrel also allows me to shoot 40 Smith & Wesson without issue.. so that g21 with the mck basically becomes six guns in one. Talk about a Lego gun! This one is just that for sure.
