As some of you may be following my 212 ELD-X fiasco in 300WM Vanguards it is becoming obvious that they just don't like the long heavy projectiles.

As this is a going to be a specific purpose made load , what are the lightest you guys are going for extended range projectiles?

I should have some 165 Interbond here today but I think this is getting on the light side for intended purpose.

Also not too keen on mono metals.

Must recommend the TTSX. My rifle is a 7mmRM, I use the 150 grn. Many one shot kills on whitetails from 50-300 yds.
No elk yet but I’m confident the bullets are competent. Never recovered a bullet, always an exit hole and massive damage.

Send some new Gen Sierra 200gr MKs and/or Berger 200-20X through the pipe. If these also shoot like crap, get a new barrel before wasting more money chasing what is unlikely to happen.

I picked up a second Vanguard that doesn't like the heavies either , the new Vanguard shot factory hornady 150 ammo alright so they just don't like em it appears, I'll try them on the first rifle also this weekend.

The problem with many new gen high BC bullets is the necessary twist rates are higher then expected.... and some factory barrels are slower then suggested.

For the Hrn 212's, I would start with a 9 twist and wouldn't be shy to toss them out of an 8 twist. I just don't think they are 10 twist bullets but YMMV.

But with any new barrel, you need to prove that it will shoot accurately first. And I lean on a few types of bullets I have plenty of experience with and know they will work. So if any barrel gets fussy about quality match bullets, time to look for a new pipe.
