What is the "lowest noise" ammo in 22lr ?

From a ported barrel the sound would probably be aplifed to the person who fired it, forward of the muzzel... im sure it would be somewhat quieter. If its prohib by law to dicharge a firearm where you are I would not.... You could always trap and kill it manualy :) sometimes its more fun that way.

CCI CB Long and Short have the same amount of powder and same bullet, just different cartridges. In my Rem 597, the batch I bought chrony at between 500-600 fps (pretty wide spread for sure). That is way below supersonic. Only useful within 50 yds max, as acceptable accuracy drops off quickly after 25 yds.

As for quiet, I shot a couple in the basement one evening to test their penetration in 1" oak and no-one upstairs noticed. There is simply no quieter 22 rimfire ammo available, and they are readily available.

BTW - they embedded themselves completely in the oak at 10' - plenty of energy for rabbits at 25 yds. Of course you would only shoot where legal, but sometimes you don't want to advertize that you're shooting, or simply don't want to bother neighbours.

A reliable subsonic load is the Winchester high speed short sold at Can Tire.
A quoted 1050fps is quite effective on black tree rats- much better than CCI cb's which run at 710fps and quickly drop off at 50 yards.

Another vote for the CCI CB Shorts. Had them this year up moose hunting to use on birds and rabbits. Didn't see any rabbits but the sharptails took a beating because of those quiet rounds. I fired one off out side camp and 1 of the 3 other guy's inside didn't hear it.

I would almost bet they are about as quiet as a pellet gun. Accuracy is great at 20-25 yards but ya they do drop off quickly at 50 and accuracy goes down the drain as well.

Thanks for the input so far, I went to my usual ammo place to see if they carried the Aguilla line, no joy, didn't think of picking up a box of CCI CB's though  .
FYI, expected range is sub 20 feet...

If you find the CB's pick them up just to try for yourself. I know in my neck of the woods they are never in stock very long most of the usual places I go. I actually picked mine up in the US at my last 3 gun match, 2 boxes just in case.

Oh one other word of advise I do notice an increase in noise from the shorts to the longs.
