What is the most dynamic rifle and pistol discipline in ON?

Hey guys,
I have some IPSC (pistol) background and would like to resume this or similar activity. Looking for a discipline that involves dynamic practical/CQB/combat style shooting with both handgun and rifle. The one that involves real life / real combat situations, not stand shooting.
Checked local (Ontario) IPSC site calendar and did not found any activity with rifle competitions/training (except for one cancelled event). So I get IPSC ON is probably good for handgun shooting and that's it. But I want to have fun with my rifles as well.

So I would appreciate your advise on:
1) what are the popular/active disciplines here in ON?
2) what would be the best range for this (I'm also looking for a range to join)

CQB at CFB Borden with the ORA is the only sport I know that has dynamic pistol and rifle.
Also "dymanic" anything makes me giggle

I haven't found a really practical/CQB/combat style shooting. They are all games at some level. IPSC in my opinion is the most game-y. 3 Gun is probably the most practical, if you don't count the dump bins, who would abandon a firearm in a real shoot out? CQB is based on CAF weapons training, and the drills have practical application, but its very procedural with no need to problem solve. You might check Service Rifle out too, no pistol use, but it'll give you and your rifle a work out.

You can find more "tactical" 3 gun in Michigan. There's Bluewater and Tuscola county. I'm off to Top BRASS III on the 27th. 500+ round count, 8 stages, sling your rifle locked and loaded and transition from pistol to rifle in a target rich environment....... It's gonna be awesome. And exhausting I suspect.
 
I have shot numerous pistol, rifle, shotgun and multi gun matches over the years be it IDPA, IPSC, USPSA, 3 gun or otherwise....and although I've never been in a live fire scenario, I am fairly confident that none of the stuff I have shot resembles "real life / real combat situations"
 
pin a bunch of hundred dolla billz to your clothes, and wander around Jane & Finch at night.
That's about as real life and dynamic as you are going to get.

Same. .. and of course Onagoth, you don't get re-shoots in real life.
 
It's sort of the tail end of the shooting season right now and the number of matches is starting to slow down... you missed two IPSC rifle matches in Ontario.

I think SR is more "move"... then "shoot"... "move" again... Then "shoot"

Some of the matches TH has hosted offered the opportunity for "shooting on the move", but... Few people are good at it.

As per 667 SR has run downs to a firing point where you then shoot, I would not say its "dynamic", but it's a challenge as it involves moving and static targets and shooting at distances most people don't get a chance to do that often, from 10-500m depending on the course of fire being shot. No pistols involved.

It's pretty different from 3 gun but fun too.

Why not try them all? They each have their own unique challenges and really can you shoot too much? More disciplines gives you more options to shoot.
 
I will try.. eventually.. it's not easy to join the clubs that have 3-gun. I tried and gave up with Galt, no perspective to shoot rifles there for next half a year. Other clubs close to me either don't accept new members or don't have 3-gun or ODPL. Will see, it looks like it will take a lot of time.

You don't have to actually join a club... Just shoot the matches.

Not sure who you talked to about the rifle thing but that is not the case. PM me if you want the skinny on Galt.

Service CQB shoots actually have very few similarities to CAF close quarter shooting, more commonly known as "Gunfighter" (but even this term isn't entirely accurate). Service CQB is essentially a close range bullseye match where the exposure times are forgiving and strings of fire are fairly scripted.

While dumping guns in 3-gun isn't something you'd likely do in real life, it is far more "dynamic" than Service CQB.
