What is the most underrated cartridge?

I believe that the 300 H&H is underrated. After the 308 I believe the 300 H&H is the most accurate 30 caliber. Hmmmmm, John Nosler was on to something..........

I would say the .308.....still a pretty versatile but boring cartridge that often get overlooked.

I have to agree with both 1899, and say the 8x57 is probably the most underrated commonly encountered chambering, and sheep in that the .308 doesn't get near the respect it deserves simply on account of folks seeing it as dull.

Other underrated cartridges:

.303 British, also boring, old, considered a clunker cartridge. In reality high capable.
.270 Winchester, considered by many a bygone, low BCs, light for caliber bullets as standard. In reality it was the first .280, and was the first 7mm Americanized cartridge to take off. It is after all, a 7mm, with a sheet of paper between .277 and .284.
9.3x62, though this one is taking off as of late. Had a long languish in the backwaters of Scandinavia.

It's funny that I like most of the cartridges listed - and I have owned quite a few of them too:
.30-30
.250 Savage - agree 100% on this one too as it is loaded quite mild, some have the slow twist barrels, not many bolt action choices...
.303 British
.270 Win.
.308 Win
.30-06
.243 Win
6.5x55 - my friend shot a grizzly with my old M38 and old privi ammo! He bought the rifle - and used it for the rest of his days.
and probably some others that I have missed.

.45/70...

Methinks the critters haven't gotten any tougher then they were 50 years ago... It's mostly the hunters these days that have gotten softer.

Also I wouldn't consider the 45/70 anaemic by any means, lol.

45/70 as under rated
My fathers 1200fps load seems anemic, 1400-1500fps seems better...but apparently unnecessary.

405 Winchester. Proven even in Africa. Not a bad round. My buddies laughed at my 45/70. 405gr at 1700 fps. They laughed until it pot marked their 550 plate that their mighty magnums could only knock paint off.
As for sheer underrated killing capabilities the 22 rimfire is the clear winner

I'd pick the 7mm-08....I've owned one since the early 80's and it still surprises me on how deadly it is on game....139 or 140gr bullets on everything from coyotes to moose....it just seems to work better than you would think it should!
