I am confused - it is supposed to be 0.579", but is that the OD of the container or the slug itself?
What I am looking for is a cheap mold for some light small bullet with OD of 0.571-0.579", i.e. something for about $25 as opposed to a custom mold for $150.
Also, what is the weight of standard 24 gauge slug?

24 ga. is basically .577. You might consider one of the Lee Minie moulds. I think they make one that throws a 350gr. bullet, most are heavier.
Don't know what you mean, standard 24 gauge slug.

What confuses me is that in the picture in Lee catalogue they show the slug in a plastic container, where they advertise the 'rotating key'. To me that would indicate that they OD of the slug was smaller than the gauge by the thickness of the container wall. Probably I ought to talk to Lee directly.

I use 24 ga hulls and brass in my Snider, and have used this Lee mold;

58 Cal.Oversize 578-478M #90478 $25.98

It's not light (478 gr), but it's cheap.

Lyman sells a Minie Ball mold (#575494) that drops 315 gr bullet, but i haven't tried it.

By "slug" are you referring to a shotgun slug? That will limit options. There is much better availability of moulds for 24ga/.577 muzzle or breechloaders.
24ga. shotguns exist, but I have never heard of a rifled one.

Yes, I was referring to a shotgun slug, but I don't really care - anything in the 300-400gr range will do, as long as it's shaped like a projectile.
This is for developing a light plinking load for a 14.5mm anti tank rifle and it is only going to reach the speed of 1200 fps or less.

90404 looks like a hit. I think this is it.
If only I could get the gas checks for it! Does anybody sell 58 cal gas checks?

I have never heard of a .58 gas check. There must be rifle bullet moulds intended for large bore sporting rifles, but the one you picked, cast from wheelweights, might work. At the velocity you mentionned, a gas check would be unecessary.
Just a thought - I wonder if it would be possible to make a die and punch which could be used to size copper pipe caps to the correct diameter? Then press a bullet into this jacket.
