With the start on to a M14/M305 build I've been giving some thought to optics mounting type and placement, if at all.

So I'd like some community feedback to determine where your Optics mounting position is, if you have one at all, why you chose it for your shooting style/requirements and if it has fullfilled your expectations.

:cheers:

My scoped rifle (which is irons only atm) normally has an Arms 18 , Q.R. high rings and a 6-18x50 optic, installed to suit eye relief. Stock's cheekweld is custom and raised to not require a riser.... Love it.
I also have an Arms 18 on my shorty , to run my leupold prismatic. Perfect combo for me.
Lots of options and preferences for mounting various optics though. Each shooter has different wants and needs so the poll results will be interesting.

I'm using a UTG rail and a scout scope, Leatherwood 2-7 LER with a Norc synthetic stock.
Pretty happy but still need a large cheek riser and it was already nose heavy before I put the scope way out there.

Thinking ARMS 18 next time, ideally a different stock with a higher comb.
Have wood for a Doc stock but I can't see my economic situation being conducive to a lot of disposable income.

I have used a bunch of setups, my favourite is over the receiver Arms 18 style mount...very versitile...mind you some norc rifles don't work well with the Arms18 mount....

Any have trouble with the ARMS 18 loosening after fire? If so, what do you do with it to stop that. Was having trouble with a buddy's using the Marstar variant similar to the ARMS 18 design and the side bolts kept loosening even with blue locktite.

If you don't want to spend the funds to upgrade the mount witch I highley reccomend try this;

If that dosn't work than ditch the mount.

Properly aligned with the bore.

I have only shot iron and over receiver. To me the handguard mounts look cool as they leave the area above the receiver clear for stripper clip loading. I have no experience with long eye relief scopes. I expect they work best on a short rifle for fast handling up close. To me the M14 is not a close in rifle. I like full length barrels. Hard to say though once tried a guy might get hooked.
