What is the RTF or RTF2 for in the Glock 22?

Wow, thats helpful. Read what thing? I have looked on their website and cant find any mention of it. I dont own one just considering buying one and Ellwood has the two options so I thought I would ask if anyone knew. Obviously I should have thought twice about asking for some input.
I heard its was Rough Textured Frame.
I believe he was trying to be funny and not slam you by using the letters RTF2 like Read The Freakin thing twice

I think he was joking. Anyway the rtf stands for rough texture finish. It was a textured grip applied to gen 3s experimentally with failure as when holstered the rough texture wore through officers clothes do they scrapped it. Gen 4s have a mellowed down version of it. I also believe wtf the rtf2 the slide serrations where different as well. I could be wrong, I'm sure a glock guru will chime in soon
Correct the slide serrations are cresent shaped not straight. Lots of pics on the net if the op wants to google it.
Gen4 also has new recoil spring setup, new magazine release system, interchangeable back straps as well as the new grip texture.
If you don't care about any of those things, then yes, get a Gen3 to save a couple $.
Since your looking at a g22 I would suggest the gen 4 the recoil reduction set up was designed around te 40 cal and works great. Plus you get an extra mag and interchangeable back straps which is a godsend for people with carnie hands like myself. And I believe the gen4 also comes with a better trigger....I may be wrong

Some RTF2 Glocks had crescent serrations (like the one here I used to own) and others didn't. The RTF2 frame had what Glock referred to as "polymids", or little pyramid shaped bumps on the frame. It was the only Glock I had that I didn't feel the need to add an aftermarket grip too. I kind of wish I had it back now.
If you go with the Gen 4, then make sure you do some research online. Glock has issued a new recoil spring free of charge for the Gen 4 guns. There are various markings that will tell you what spring is in the gun you bought, but I would suggest having the seller tell you what version is in the gun you're getting, and if its not the newest version, then ask the seller to replace it first. Its free from Glock, but they're not supposed to ship gun parts to individual owners outside the US. They sent me a new recoil spring and it came across the border fine, but some have gotten seized at the border. Your seller should be able to get the replacement part with less questions.
You can never go wrong with a Glock. Mine is a Glock 17 gen 4, never had any issues with it, and there is definitely a reduced recoil from a gen 3. 9mm and .40 don't exactly have punishing recoil to begin with though, so if cost is an issue, then the Gen 3 will be a great deal. I would stick to the RTF though, RTF2 was very rough from what I hear. Enjoy your new Glock, and make sure you get lots of shooting in, a gun is only as good as the training its owner does.
The only upgrade I recommend immediately is the sights. I personally run Trijicon night sights. There are lots of good options out there, but Glock factory sights are plastic and not adequate.

I phoned glock and was told any new Gen 4 handgun manufactured after Aug I believe has the updated Return Spring.
