What is the worst shooting rifle you ever owned....

mine was a remington 7400 in a .308, worst gun i have own...always gammed and was the heaviest thing ive carried in the bush!

My worst was a 92 Winchester in 38-40. Didn'timprove when I switched barrels to 44-40, but, with a lot of work on my oart, both with the rifle, and with reloading, it now shoots quite well.
How bad was it? I have witnesses to groups off a rest of more than 12 " at 25 yards.
It now does 3 to 4" at 100 yards.

.
Yup, I was there... It was MOP (Minute of pieplate @10 yards at best) :D:D:D:D
Glad she's runnin like a charm

remington viper .22 semi auto ...had to clean it after every 10 shots or else it would jam ...tried differant loads ,but it made no differance ..ps the rabbits loved it ..

I had a buddy who had one of them... I think this is why remington marketed em for so long :D

Lakefield model 64b .22.Not that it wasn't accurate.to many feeding and jamming issues with the rifle.I spent more time trying to get it to operate properly than I did shooting it.It collects dust in the gunsafe now.
This would be my worst too...
I've had one of em, and one that performs flawlessly... But it still needed complete disassembly every thousand rounds or so. (and mean complete disassembly)

1300 pump

Absolut POS, spent more time with the smith than it did with me.

I can attest to the uselessnes of that particlur jack handle, undoubtably THE worst pump shotgun I have ever laid eyes on!
What was it , four different and very competent gunsmiths
went at that thing?
Totally possesed , it was......
Cat

I also had a Win 1300 "featherlite" with the 22" barrel. It never patterned well even with the full choke, so I bought a 28" barrel for it which helped a bit. When cycling the pump though right from new it would ALWAYS stick back against the receiver. Total disassembly using emery cloth to polish the innards made no difference. I consigned that gun off 22 years later and got $395 for it. (It looked brand new cause I hardly ever used it :p)

I had a big bore 94 once in .375. was only good for cutting down trees at 10ft. All over the place.

I also had a Winchester 94 "Trapper Carbine" in .44 magnum that would ALWAYS pop the last round from the mag tube under the feed ramp when the ramp was "up" ejecting the second last shell.
That gun would hit a bic lighter off a fence post at 50 yrds with the iron sights. It was just a bummer to have to disassemble the gun twice a day every day at deer camp when coming in for lunch and supper.
I thought I'd be real smart and trade it in back in '86...for my Sks I have (It has taken two deer in its defence)

another mini

Another vote for Mini-14 Ranch Rifle, POS 6" groups, sent it back to Ruger, came back shooting 6" groups ! Gone now thankfully, don't know where

My worst was a Model 70 carbine in 30-06, no matter what you shot out of it the groups were like a shotgun. Factory ammo shot worse than reloads,I sold it and told the guy that all it got was 3 inch groups. He bought it anyways...........

Mini 14 for sure. I got this really nice stainless Ranch rifle and after one afternoon of giving it an honest try (scoped too!), I was totally pissed off. Worst trigger I'd ever seen on any firearm and 4" groups at 50 yards. And this from a gun worth around $800!!!! Now I've got an SKS to fill the same role; better trigger and tighter groups at 1/4 the price, from a 60+ year old rifle design.

Remington 760 pump in .270 - couldn't hit a pie plate at 100 yds with ANY load, hand or factory, 2 or 3 out of five

Mine too, and it wouldnt take a shell from the mag to chamber, missed 3 deer cause of the nasty click it made instead of band, one was a very large buck.

This is an easy one.....Uberti Lo-wall copy in 38-55, I tried every trick in the book to make it shoot, traded it for a Marlin .44Mag. that shot better groups at 100 yds. with iron factory sights and first loads I tried.

worse shooting rifle

I bought a brand new Ruger #1 in 7MM Mauser a few years back. I tried a lot of different loads and at best it would miss a 100yd sighting-in target once or twice every five shoots.

CZ550 varminter in .22-250

Brand new, outa backcountry in red deer, shot horrible, like 8 inch group with factory ammo, handloads a tad bit better, I took it back to backcountry, and said these kinda groups are NOT accesptable for a varminter,, they said ohh instead of sending it back or whatever, well bed it and such, it came back and such, with BIG scratches on it, the action screws were stripped, and a target, 1 big hole with 5 shots, musta shot it at 10 yrds tho, cause i used the same ammo...and same old garbage..

Ooopppss that turned into a rant...

oh my god. thats by far the worst group ive ever even imagined, let alone actually saw.

how is that even possible? i wonder how many neglected wartime rifles were actually used in battle like that. i guess in 'volley fire' it doesnt really matter.

**edit
wait, is the one on the bottom left part of that group? i assumed it was, but i count 6 bullets.

actually, I count 9 holes in the target: 6 keyholed and 3 round.

The least accurate rifle I ever shot was my friends surplus 303.

It would shoot dinner plate sized groups at 100 yards.

In all fairness to the rifle we had/have no idea how old it is and how rounds have been through it already.

Browning blr in 243. Good luck with that one, better off throwing the rifle at the animal...might hit it then. Woulda made a good golf club.

the worst rifle I ever used was my dad's 303 british. the scopes couldn't take the pounding and niether could i at about 15 yrs old. With a scope it would be dead on at 50 yrds then the next shot would be somewhere else like way off the paper!!

Remington 700 SPS.. two of them, both complete and utter piles of crap.. swore me off Remington for now, ended up with a Tikka instead.

Marlin 336 30/30

Using blemished federal 160 gr. the bullet was tumbling and leaving a perfect silhouette of the cartridge in the target. Used 1st grade ammo and on the money every time. Sorry...not really applicable to this post, however lesson learned...don't scrimp on ammo when your hunting for the trophy buck.:D:D
