yes but i think the mix up here is the new cz 858 they brought in and original gray military ones that were converted to semi auto--heard both sides--one is that they were put together with surplus parts--and aren't as good as csa vz58 and also heard tougher rifles military use better than vz58---two sides of the coin- dont know the real truth i guess lol

I found the CZH2003 (a well put together one) and the CZ858 to be far superior to the CSAs. I had three CSAs of '13, '14, and a '15 manufacture dates. All had issues. The most rounds I got out of one without a failure was 500. Of which the striker broke and the reciver rails were starting to peen badly.
As for price it all depends on the seller. Some don't care to profit and sell it for what they payed a few years ago. Some want a premium.

699$+tax. Or to be more specific, exactly what paid for one in January 2012. That's with everything included.
They aren't worth a penny more than that now and if it's been used is worth substantially less. Yes, they aren't being imported anymore. But CSA models are. And those too are overpriced for what you get.
Don't get me wrong. I like the VZ-58 platform. It's light, carries ok, has a long ass barrel on it (NR versions anyway), isn't easily scope-able, is easy to clean, has a weird safety, and is marginally more accurate than a standard issue SKS. It's a good infantryman's rifle. To me, it's not worth 1000$. I liked the 858 I had. And it was worth the money I paid for it. No more than that though.

If you take inflation and the exchange rate into consideration they are cheaper now than 2012. Inflation alone would put you at around 850$ not mentioning our low dollar, increased shipping costs, heating for storage and lots of other factors I am probably missing.

I agree with the around $800 price point for a new condition rifle. I wouldn't pay more than that unless it came with a ####load of magazines and a bipod or something.
They are a great rifle in my humble opinion. But, you know what is said about opinions......we also know what can be said about the price of something and the price that someone that wants one bad enough is willing to pay....
